With the thrilling post-touchdown two-point play a staple in college football in the 1950s, Lamar Hunt’s American Football League adopted the two-point conversion when it began play in 1960. After the AFL and the NFL merged in 1970 the play disappeared from the professional game until 1994, when, at Lamar’s urging, it was officially adopted into the NFL rulebook.
