The LaLiga and the Medellín City Hall recently unveiled an agreement under which the LaLiga will support the transformation of the Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellín, Colombia.

The LaLiga has extensive knowledge and experience as well as expertise in the development and modernization of the sports infrastructures.

Sports Infrastructure

‘LALIGA’ stated that through the agreement the LaLiga makes its knowledge and experience in developing and modernizing the sports infrastructure available to the city (Medellín).

Madrid (Spain)-based the LaLiga is a professional association football league in Spain and the highest level of the Spanish football league system.

The Medellín City Hall (known locally as the Alcaldía de Medellín or the Municipality of Medellín) is the local Government agency and executive branch that manages the public administration, the Municipal policies and the civic services of Medellín, Colombia.

The 44,826-seat Atanasio Girardot Stadium, commonly referred to as the El Atanasio, is a multipurpose stadium in Medellín, Colombia.

Specialist Advice

‘LALIGA’ further stated that the agreement provides for specialist advice across a range of technological and operational areas with the aim of creating a more modern, safe and connected stadium tailored to the needs of the city and its fans. This includes developments in connectivity, security, TV production, lighting, sound, and screens.

Modernization Project

The unveiling and a joint presser were attended by the Medellín Mayor Federico Gutiérrez and Marc Tarradas, LaLiga’s Managing Director for South America. They rounded off a week in which the LaLiga and Medellín’s leading institutions made progress on the various strands of the Atanasio Girardot Stadium modernization project.

‘Moving Forward’

Maintained Mayor Gutiérrez, “This is the stadium the city deserves and it will remain 100 percent public. It is a model that will serve Medellín today but we are making it available to any city in Colombia because it is a way of moving forward on the infrastructure. We are going to use the same mechanisms as the private sector so that it is efficient and well-managed.”

‘Comprehensive Vision’

Added Tarradas, “The LaLiga has extensive knowledge and experience in the development and modernization of the sports infrastructure. Our goal is to contribute this knowledge with a comprehensive vision that combines technology, security, operations, and the fan experience thus adapting the solutions and lessons learned at the other major stadiums to the specific needs of the city.”

Transformation-Modernization

Several bodies are taking part in the project working together across the different areas needed for the Atanasio Girardot Stadium full transformation and modernization:

Various Bodies

The project presentation caps a week of work in Medellín. During that week the LaLiga team met with the various bodies involved in the project and in the development of the city’s infrastructure including the ESU, the EDU, the INDER, the APP, and the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure (CCI).

Technology Upgrade
