American tennis fans will have a unique opportunity to share in the magic of Wimbledon as the All England Club unveiled its plans for The Wimbledon Court in Central Park, New York.
Wimbledon AELTC said that every year since 2022, Wimbledon has highlighted a taste of The Championships bringing its Grand Slam event to the US with The Hill in New York.
Following the success of the popular event, this year’s offering will take the shape of The Wimbledon Court in Central Park, New York, which will run from Friday 26 to Monday 29 June.
For the first time, the famous Wollman Rink will be transformed into a pop-up grass court, installed and maintained by Wimbledon’s expert groundstaff.
Headlining the four-day event is The Wimbledon Court Invitational.
To be staged on the afternoon of Friday 26 June, the exhibition match will see tennis icons go head-to-head in a friendly doubles match. Participating players will be revealed in the coming days.
Fans can secure free tickets to watch The Wimbledon Court Invitational via a public ballot.
On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June a number of lucky fans will have the rare chance to test their grass court tennis skills with free slots to play on the pop-up court – presented by Barclays, Official Banking Partner of The Championships – on offer via a public ballot which can be entered here.
New Yorkers will be encouraged to visit The Wimbledon Court in Central Park and get involved in an array of tennis-themed activities.
From free tennis clinics with coaches, to tasting Wimbledon’s traditional strawberries and cream, Pimm’s and Champagne Lanson, there is something for everyone to enjoy, both on and off the court.
A tennis session will take place on Monday 29 June for selected 15-24 year olds from Barclays Net Work at The Wimbledon Court in Central Park.
This co-funded youth employment and skills programme supported by Barclays and Wimbledon is based in the Bronx, New York, and runs in partnership with the nonprofit Good Shepherd Services.
Since its inception, the tennis-themed employability programme has upskilled 143 young people and supported 49 into employment, working with those who are unemployed, disconnected from education, or have experience of the justice system.
The four-day event will conclude with the opportunity for New Yorkers to enjoy watching the opening day’s play of Wimbledon from Central Park, with giant screens broadcasting the matches live from The Championships.
Usama Al-Qassab, Marketing and Commercial Director at The All England Lawn Tennis Club, said, “We are delighted to bring Wimbledon to the US for a fifth successive year, giving New York’s devoted tennis fans a flavour of Wimbledon.
“Whether they are watching the unique exhibition matches we have planned, enjoying the rare opportunity to play on a Wimbledon grass court, coming to New York for the first time ever, or tasting some of Wimbledon’s traditional food and drink, our four day event will bring the celebration of ‘tennis in an English garden’ to New York’s iconic Central Park.”
