The Commissioner of Major League Baseball (MLB) Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced recently that the MLB has awarded the 2028 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard and the accompanying All-Star Week events to the San Francisco Giants. The baseball show will be held at the Giants’ home facility – the Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, United States.

‘mlb.com’ stated that the 2028 All-Star Game will be baseball’s 98th Midsummer Classic.

The 2027 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard in Chicago is slated for July 13th at the 41,649-seat Wrigley Field in Chicago (US), the National League’s oldest ballpark. The 97th All-Star Game will mark the fourth time the MLB team Chicago Cubs have hosted the Midsummer Classic at the Wrigley Field joining 1947, 1962 (second) and 1990. The Wrigley Field, which opened its gates in 1914, will become the only active ballpark, and just the third ever, to host four All-Star Games along with the now-demolished 74,438-capacity Municipal Stadium in Cleveland (1935, 1954, 1963, 1981) and the 46,537-seat Yankee Stadium in New York (1939, 1960, 1977, 2008).

New York (US)-based Major League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball league in North America composed of 30 teams divided equally between the National League (NL) and the American League (AL) with 29 in the United States and one (1) in Canada. The MLB is one of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada and is considered the premier professional baseball league in the world.

The San Francisco Giants are an American professional baseball team based in San Francisco (US). The Giants compete in the Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West Division.

The 41,331-seat Oracle Park is a ballpark in the South Beach neighborhood of San Francisco, California, United States. Since 2000, it has been the home of the Major League Baseball (MLB) team San Francisco Giants.

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also known as the ‘Midsummer Classic’, is an annual professional baseball game sanctioned by the Major League Baseball (MLB) and contested between the All-Stars from the American League (AL) and the National League (NL).

‘Rich Baseball History’

With its passionate fanbase, the world-class ballpark and the rich baseball history, San Francisco will be an outstanding host for the All-Star Week which culminates in one of Major League Baseball’s best traditions, the Midsummer Classic. We look forward to bringing the excitement of the All-Star Week and the celebration of baseball to the Bay Area.”

‘Unforgettable All-Star Experience’

Opined Larry Baer, San Francisco Giants President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), “The San Francisco Giants are incredibly honored to host the 2028 MLB All-Star Game at the Oracle Park. We’re thrilled to welcome the baseball world to San Francisco and showcase our city, our organization and our incredible fans. We’re grateful to Major League Baseball for this opportunity and look forward to creating an unforgettable All-Star experience for the fans from San Francisco and around the world.”

Active Ballparks

The Oracle Park, which staged the 2007 All-Star Game, will become the eighth active ballpark to host the Midsummer Classic multiple times thus joining the 37,755-capacity Fenway Park in Boston (1946, 1961, 1999), the Wrigley Field (1947, 1962, 1990), the 45,517-capacity Angel Stadium in Anaheim (1967, 1989, 2010), the 56,000-capacity Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles (1980, 2022), the 34,820-capacity Progressive Field in Cleveland (1997, 2019), the 50,144-capacity Coors Field in Denver (1998, 2021), and the 47,368-capacity T-Mobile Park in Seattle (2001, 2023).
