Guadalajara’s (city in Mexico) Coliseo GNP Seguros officially opened its doors on September 22nd, 2026, with a performance by Michael Bublé (Canadian singer and songwriter) thus christening the 30,000-capacity stadium as a new major player. The venue has undergone extensive key renovations.
Music Destination
‘DIGITAL MUSIC NEWS’ stated that Guadalajara, already Mexico’s second-largest market, is poised to become a significant player in the live entertainment industry on the heels of Mexico City’s rapid ascent to one of the world’s top live music destinations.
The Coliseo GNP Seguros is a stadium in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. It is currently used for football and American football. It has a capacity of 18,779.
Canadian Crooner
‘DIGITAL MUSIC NEWS’ further stated that Rod Stewart, who had to cancel due to medical issues, was originally slated to open the stadium, but Bublé stepped in. The Canadian crooner last performed in the region three years ago. His setlist this time around included his original hits as well as covers of classics like ‘Moondance’, “L-O-V-E,” and ‘You Were Always on My Mind’.
Rich History
The Coliseo GNP Seguros was formerly known as the Estadio 3 de Marzo but was recently renovated by the leading Mexican live entertainment promoter OCESA in partnership with the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, a prominent university in the city. The stadium has a rich 55-year history having hosted the World Cup matches in the ’80s and acts such as Luis Miguel (a famous Mexican singer and record producer), Roger Waters (English singer-songwriter and musician), and Shakira (Colombian singer-songwriter and dancer).
Cultural History
Stated Alejandro Soberón, Head Honcho, OCESA, “Jalisco holds a special place in Mexico’s cultural history and Guadalajara is an indispensable city within the national live entertainment circuit. The new Coliseo GNP Seguros represents a long-term partnership between OCESA, the GNP Seguros and the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara to continue creating the conditions that will allow more artistes to include Guadalajara in their tours, more visitors to come to Jalisco and the economic benefits generated by each show to reach the hotels, the restaurants, transportation, retail, tourism, and the local suppliers.”
Six Shows
The venue has six other shows booked for the rest of 2026 including Alejandro Sanz (Spanish singer and composer) in October and Gorillaz (English virtual band) in December.
Key Upgrades
The key upgrades include a fixed permanent stage setup, a new pedestrian arrival plaza, updated VIP suites, and an expanded food park, bars and beer garden.
Audience Experience
The 55-year-old venue has been redesigned with the audience experience as the central focus. The access system has been reorganized with revised parking and pedestrian flows leading to a new entry lobby.
Seating Areas
Inside, the seating areas have been upgraded to improve the comfort quotient and the sightlines with the new hospitality zones and VIP services added. The venue has new restroom facilities and an expanded food and beverage (F&B) offering distributed throughout the building. The continuous pathways have been introduced from the main entrance to allow the people with reduced mobility to move more easily throughout the venue.
Maximizing Space
The stage has been reconfigured for more efficient integration into the venue’s structure with the aim of maximizing the space across the field, the suites and the seating areas. The new backstage areas include the dressing rooms, the production offices and the service spaces. The venue has also been fitted with a digital screen system, including a perimeter light-emitting diode (LED) ring and additional visual communication points.
Lightweight Roof
A new lightweight roof has been installed providing greater protection to the spectators and reshaping the venue’s silhouette. The façade and the exterior materials have also been updated.
