The Taichung City Council (Taiwan) held its Eighth General Inquiry of the Fourth Session recently.
Latest Progress
‘taichung.gov.tw’ stated that the City Councilor Lin Hao-you inquired about the latest progress as regards the Taichung ‘Super Dome’ in Taichung City, Taiwan, which is still in the planning and contract stage.
The Taichung City Council is the highest legislative body of Taichung City in Taiwan (Republic of China).
The Taichung Super Dome is a planned 45,000-seat multifunctional domed stadium and entertainment complex in Taichung City, Taiwan.
Long-felt Need
‘taichung.gov.tw’ further stated that the Mayor of Taichung City Lu Shiow-yen said that the Taichung Super Dome has been a long-felt need of the people of Taiwan – an arena in Central Taiwan – to host major baseball games and concerts.
Super Dome Project
The Super Dome Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) project is gaining traction and a contract with the investors is set to be inked in October.
Price Tag
The investors have pegged the price tag of the ‘Super Dome’ to be circa NT$60 billion thus making it the largest single sports venue investment project in Taiwan. The venue is expected to boast the largest capacity in the country.
Mixed-use
Councilor Lin stated that the people of Central Taiwan have long been demanding a baseball-cum-exhibition venue and the ‘Super Dome’ is expected to be a mixed-use project.
BOT Model
Mayor Shiow-yen informed that the Taichung Super Dome will adopt the BOT model to facilitate private investment. Currently, the investor is the Taiwan Life Insurance. The ‘Super Dome’ will take a page out of the Es Con Field Hokkaido Stadium in Hokkaido, Japan, and will also follow the construction model of the Hokkaido Stadium – three years from the start of construction to completion.
Multifunctional Venue
Mayor Shiow-yen also informed that the ‘Super Dome’ will be a multifunctional venue hosting baseball games, major music acts, etc. It is being planned that hotels, department stores and art and cultural venues will skirt the arena.
