The Queenslanders can now get a first look at the draft Victoria Park Precinct Legacy Plan which outlines a vision for one of Brisbane’s (Australia) most significant public spaces and the future Games precinct.

Community Consultation

‘GIICA’ stated that released by the Queensland Government for community consultation the draft plan brings together the planned 63,000-seat Brisbane Stadium in Queensland, the upcoming 25,000-seat National Aquatic Centre in Brisbane, the 25,490-seat Brisbane Showgrounds in Brisbane upgrades, and the parklands and the public spaces into a connected destination designed for both major events and everyday community use.

Better-connected Precinct

With more than two-thirds of the park remaining green and public space the plan explores how the Victoria Park will evolve into a more accessible and better-connected precinct with new walking and cycling links, improved public transport connections, the restored waterways, and the expanded green space.

The Victoria Park (also known by its traditional indigenous name Barrambin) is a major 64-hectare parkland located about two kilometers North of Brisbane’s Central Business District (CBD). Gazetted in 1875 and named after Queen Victoria it is currently evolving from its past use as a golf course into an expansive public green space and the future core of the 2032 Olympic Games precinct.

The 2032 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXV Olympiad and also known as Brisbane 2032, is a planned international multisport event scheduled to take place from July 23rd-August 8th, 2032 in Brisbane, Australia, with venues across the various regions of Queensland.

The 2032 Summer Paralympics, also known as the Brisbane 2032 Summer Paralympic Games, and branded as Brisbane 2032, will be the 19th edition of the Summer Paralympic Games, an international multisport parasports event. The Games are scheduled to be held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, from August 24th-September 5th, 2032.

Community First

‘GIICA’ further stated that the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) head honcho Simon Crooks said the release of the draft plan provides the community with an opportunity to see how the new Brisbane Stadium and the National Aquatic Centre fit within the wider vision for the Victoria Park – “While we’re focused on delivering the new Brisbane Stadium and the National Aquatic Centre ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games we’re even more focused on the legacy these venues create for the Queenslanders beyond 2032. How the people move to, from and around our venues is just as important as their experience once they’re inside them. It’s exciting to see a vision that connects these elements and focuses on creating a place people can enjoy long after the Games are over. From community sport and recreation, to the global events and entertainment, it’s clear this plan aims to create a destination that people can enjoy every day.”

Brisbane (Australia)-based the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) is an independent statutory body established by the Queensland Government in November 2024. It leads the planning, procurement, construction, and delivery of 17 new and upgraded sporting venues for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Community Feedback

The Queensland Government is also seeking community feedback to help shape the next stage of planning and is encouraging everyone interested in the future of the Victoria Park Precinct to review the draft plan and share their feedback through the Queensland Government’s consultation process.
