A huge new 135,000-seat capacity stadium being built in the Vietnamese capital city of Hanoi will be named the VinFast Stadium.

The new venue is being touted as the world’s largest stadium and it will be located within the Hanoi International Sports Urban Area.

Car maker Vingroup selected the VinFast brand for the iconic national sports venue to honor Vietnamese spirit in the new era but also to promote the image of a developing, prosperous Vietnam to the world.

VinFast Stadium is situated at the southern gateway of Hanoi, at the heart of the Hanoi International Sports Urban Area.

Spanning a total area of 73.3 hectares with a capacity of 135,000 seats, the stadium is designed to meet FIFA standards.

Upon completion, VinFast Stadium will be the largest stadium on the planet featuring an automatic retractable roof.

Vingroup said that given its global scale and stature, VinFast Stadium’s name holds special significance; it must match the magnitude of an iconic landmark, reflect the ambition to conquer the most challenging peaks, and showcase the image of Vietnam and its people on the international stage.

Based on these criteria, the VinFast brand was officially selected to name the world’s largest stadium.

Vingroup said, “In the nine years since its inception, VinFast has transcended the role of a mere automaker to become a symbol of Vietnamese mettle, intellect, and fierce determination.

VinFast represents not only the ambition to create and master industrial value chains but also the drive to conquer the most formidable challenges.

“The VinFast name will project an image of a modern, dynamic new Vietnam to the world, while helping to elevate and expand the reach of a Vietnamese brand on the international stage.”

Sustainability at its core

Aligning with VinFast’s “green” mission, the VinFast Stadium is set to become one of the world’s most advanced green and smart stadiums.

The venue integrates artificial intelligence (AI) technology, including the capability to replace the playing surface in just 6–10 hours, alongside 5G-connected smart seating and real-time security and crowd management systems.

Water recovery and reuse solutions reduce freshwater consumption by up to 70%, while natural ventilation and heat/UV-resistant materials lower energy usage, fostering a sustainable operational model.

The VVIP area is designed to premium international standards, capable of hosting heads of state and high-level delegations for major international events.

Surrounding the VinFast Stadium is a diverse, modern ecosystem of auxiliary sports facilities, creating a world-class sports, entertainment, and cultural complex.

This infrastructure is designed to host future global-scale events, such as the Asian Games (ASIAD), the FIFA World Cup, or the Olympics, thereby helping to establish Vietnam as a new destination for major global events.

Construction of the VinFast Stadium is scheduled for completion in July 2027.
