Downtown was abuzz with excitement recently as the Mobilians (Mobile County, Alabama, United States) gathered at the construction site of the arena to hear the name plus sponsor of the all-new arena in District 2.
‘BAMA BUZZ’ quoted Lenise Ligon, Fox10 News Anchor and host of the naming ceremony as stating, “This is what it looks like when a city bets on itself. Arts and entertainment, they’re not extra, they are essential.”
The arena will be located at the Civic Center in Mobile, Alabama (US). It is scheduled to open in early 2027 and will host live performances and concerts, sporting events and large-scale programming.
A Partnership with Deep Roots
‘BAMA BUZZ’ stated that the Mayor of Mobile Spiro Cheriogotis announced the name of the new arena along with everything the new structure represents for the city of Mobile. The highly anticipated project will be named after the partnership that helped create it: The Regions Arena. The ceremony also reminded Mobile and the future tourists that more than the name it is about what is being built to foster the community.
The Regions Bank has been a part of Mobile’s community for over a century with deep roots in Alabama. Bruner Binion, Regions’ Market President, expressed gratitude and excitement about the partnership stating that Regions goes beyond banking – they are supporting economic progress as well as community development.
Birmingham (US)-based Regions Bank is one of United States largest full-service providers of consumer and commercial banking, wealth management and mortgage products and services.
The Regions Bank has also partnered with the 8,500-seat Regions Field located in Birmingham, Alabama (US).
Something for Everyone
Defined as one of the most transformative projects Mobile has ever taken on there are promises that the Regions Arena will offer entertainment for everyone – from Mardi Gras balls (the last day of consuming rich, fatty foods, most notably red meat, in preparation for the Christian fasting season of Lent during which such foods are avoided) to live music to Mobile’s own minor league hockey team.
The Regions Arena is situated in the heart of the city as stated by District 2’s city Councilwoman, Samantha Ingram, “By strengthening the heart you help the entire system feel the impact.”
Added Ingram, “[The arena will be] a direct boost to our city’s economy with an estimated 400,000 visitors annually which will drive tourism – increasing hotel occupancy, strengthening our restaurants plus creating consistent foot traffic in our areas to support our local businesses. This also opens the door for expanded employment opportunities thus creating pathways for our residents to participate in and benefit from this growth, both culturally and financially.”
The Oak View Group (OVG) will be managing the arena but the Co-Chairman of OVG Peter Luukko emphasized the importance of the arena belonging to the people of Mobile. LiveNation will be involved with the concerts and the touring shows scheduled at the Regions Arena. Since they will call this arena their home there will be a name unveiling for the new minor league hockey team in June!.
