Austria Lustenau has decided to go ahead with repurposing their residence – Planet Pure Stadium – despite ÖVP politician Markus Wallner questioning their revamp decision taking into consideration the coronavirus crisis.

Austria Lustenau is an Austrian association football club based in Lustenau. It was founded in 1914. Planet Pure Stadium is a multiuse stadium in Lustenau, Austria, built in 1953. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of SC Austria Lustenau and FC Lustenau 07. The stadium holds 8,800 spectators.

The Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) is a conservative and Christian-democratic political party in Austria.

The Austrian second division team has been planning since 2017 to redecorate the home ground. The Planet Pure Stadium will be reconfigured for 17.6 million euros so that it meets the criteria of the Austrian Bundesliga. The stands and the infrastructure will be refurbished and the capacity of the facility will come down to 7,000 seats.

The Austrian Football Bundesliga is the highest-ranking national league club competition in Austrian football.

Recently, the Voralberg Governor, Markus Wallner (ÖVP), showed concern about medium-term projects whose construction is yet to take off. Wallner commented that if the construction work has started, steps should be taken to stop the same taking into account the COVID-19 situation. He specifically named the Planet Pure Stadium.

The Governor’s statement ruffled the feathers of Austria Lustenau. Fumed one of the board members of the football club Bernd Bösch, “The stadium revamp work will have to continue as we will have to meet the Bundesliga criteria. A lot of ground work in this regard has already been done.”

Austria Lustenau has already met the Mayor of Lustenau, Mag. Dr. Kurt Fischer, and a team of architects in connection with the stadium spruce-up work. The revamp work is a joint endeavor of Bernardo Bader Architects ZT GmbH, architect Walter Angonese and gbd ZT GmbH.
