Six groups have submitted bids for the construction of the new Michael Klein Stadium in Romania.
Agenda Constructiilor said the Strabag construction group plus five other consortia, led by Frasinul, Constructii Erbasu SA, Con-A Operations, ACI Cluj and MIS Grup submitted bids for the design and construction of the new venue in Hunedoara.
The value of the contract is estimated at almost 210 million lei ($45 million), excluding VAT.
According to a feasibility study developed by PGA Markers company from Timisoara, the new stadium will be built over an area of 37,207 square meters and will have 10,100 seats and underground parking.
The current Michael Klein Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Hunedoara, Romania. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of CS Hunedoara. The stadium holds 16,500 people. Opened in 1960 the stadium was the home ground of Corvinul Hunedoara for 44 years.
The stadium originally known as Corvinul was renamed in the 1990s after Michael Klein, the Romanian international footballer who died on the pitch in 1993, while playing for Bayer Uerdingen.

Association Frasinul (leader) – Campeador – Dico and Tiganas design office – Nord Conforest – Conest SA – MBS Group, with subcontractors Dianliv Instal, Dacia Faber, General Instal Comp, Sports Fields, KONE Ascensorul, Abcony Serv, Exe Green Engineering and IMSAT Service Cluj SA;
Erbasu Construction Association (leader) – PAB Romania – New RPC 321, having as subcontractors and third parties the companies Artateliers Project Studio, Arcadia AEN Architecture & PM, D&D Eurocom, GHP Intelligent Systems and KONE Ascensorul;
Association Con-a Operations (leader) – Bog’Art – Prodesign Engineering & Construction, with subcontractors IMSAT Service Cluj SA, KONE Ascensorul, Igna Instal, Brenneka Install, H2M Engineering Design, Con-a, CECO Architects, Con-a MEP, Eckon CEI and Helinick;
ACI Cluj association (leader) – MTD Simplu Construct – Somet – Cumulus Architecture, having as subcontractors and third parties the companies Arxstudio-Architecture, Aventus Design, IMSAT Service Cluj SA, Instaltek Project, Sports Fields, KONE Ascensorul and Abcony Serv;
Association MIS Grup (leader) – Constructii Conico – SDC Proiect – Kesz Constructii Romania, having as subcontractors and third parties the companies Euro Mep Design, Columna Consult, SDC Consulting Engineers, Spot Security Sistem, K-Box Construction Design, Geodesign, Somptuos Energy, Eco Garden Construct, Ascensor Advertising, Vafrom Service, Aqua Serv and Hit & Cold Instal.
The opportunity to invest in the new arena in Hunedoara was put up for auction by the National Investment Company in the summer of 2023, but a series of appeals, requests for postponement and additional clarifications have repeatedly hampered the outcome of the procedure.
If there are no other objections, after the evaluation of the documentation submitted in the technical-financial support of the offers (which lasts approximately 3-4 months), the report of the procedure will be issued and the winning company will be notified.
The mayor of Hunedoara, Dan Boboutanu, said, “From today, the procedure to establish the designer and the executor of the actual works begins. I hope that the result will be achieved within the deadline and, if there are any more objections, that their resolution will not take very long. We want and we really need a new stadium in Hunedoara, an arena that will serve the entire county.”
