The Norwegian professional football club Bodø/Glimt (Norway) has officially marked the start of construction of the ‘Arctic Arena’, a landmark project that will become the future home of the four-time Norwegian champions and a symbol of the club’s continued growth on and off the pitch.

Major Stride Ahead

The stadium is set to be completed in 2027 as the project represents one of the most important investments ever made in the development of Bodø/Glimt and is a major step forward for football, community and business in Northern Norway. It will also be a place where sport, culture and community will come together.

First Step

‘FLASHSCORE’ stated that following their glorious Champions League campaign last year where they reached the Round of 16 before crashing out against the Portuguese football team Sporting CP, Bodø/Glimt now takes the first step in building for the future as construction has begun for the ‘Arctic Arena’ set to hold 10,000 spectators and designed to meet the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) requirements.

The Bodø/Glimt or its former name Glimt is a Norwegian professional football club from the city of Bodø in Bodø Municipality, Nordland County, Norway. The club currently plays in Eliteserien, the top division of the Norwegian football league system. The club was founded on September 19th, 1916.

The 8,270-seat Aspmyra Stadion is a football stadium in the town of Bodø, Norway. Home of Bodø/Glimt the venue has four stands: A modern all-seater with roof, 100 club seats and 15 luxury boxes to the South, unroofed all-seater stands to the East and West and two stands to the North.

‘Arctic Arena’

The ‘Arctic Arena’ is more than a football stadium – it is a meeting place for the entire region. Designed to host 10,000 spectators the arena combines the raw beauty of the Arctic climate with the elegance of Nordic architecture.

The ‘Arctic Arena’ will not only be one of Europe’s Northernmost football stadiums and a tribute to football and Northern Norwegian strength but it will also unite the region and contribute to the development of Bodø (town in Norway) as a destination. Its faceted form, inspired by the strength and clarity of a diamond, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere through the use of timber and recycled aluminum. This is a space where sport, culture and community come together shaping Bodø as a destination for shared experiences and social development.

The UEFA Champions League, commonly known as the Champions League, is an annual club association football competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) that is contested by the top-division European clubs.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is the governing body of football in Europe uniting 55 national associations and overseeing the promotion, regulation and development of the sport across the continent.

Scaling Heights

‘FLASHSCORE’ further stated that the top-flight club enjoyed a remarkable UEFA Champions League campaign reaching the Round of 16 for the first time in the club’s history in its first-ever participation in the competition with the football world stunned by the extraordinary rise of a club from North of the Arctic Circle.

‘Defining Moment’

Observed Frode Thomassen, head honcho, Bodø/Glimt, “This is a defining moment for the club, for our supporters and for the whole region. The start of construction of our new arena is much more than the beginning of a building project. It is a statement about who we are, what we have built together and where we want to go. This arena will be the future home of the Bodø/Glimt and a place that reflects the ambition, energy and unity that have driven this club’s remarkable journey.”
