The Queenslanders can take a first look at the vision for the upgraded Brisbane Showgrounds Main Arena in Brisbane (Australia) which will form part of the new Brisbane Athletes Village.
The Brisbane Athletes Village will leave a lasting community legacy and will also create a connected destination.
‘DELIVERING 2032 AND BEYOND’ stated that the Brisbane Showgrounds will remain home to Queensland’s iconic Ekka (annual agricultural festival) through to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond as the precinct enters an exciting new chapter.
The Brisbane Showgrounds Main Arena is a historic, oval-shaped open-air grassed show ring located in Bowen Hills, Brisbane, Australia. Serving as the central feature of the Brisbane Showgrounds it is famous as the long-time home of the annual Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) and is undergoing a major multimillion dollar transformation for the 2032 Olympic Games.
The main Brisbane Athletes Village for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is planned for the Brisbane Showgrounds in Bowen Hills (Australia). It will host over 10,000 athletes and officials during the Olympics and 5,000 during the Paralympics before converting into a permanent inner-city residential and entertainment neighborhood.

Brisbane Showgrounds Revitalization
‘DELIVERING 2032 AND BEYOND’ further stated that delivered in partnership with the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA) and Lendlease the project will revitalize the Brisbane Showgrounds while preserving its role as the home of the Ekka.

Planned Upgrades
The planned upgrades include a new Machinery Hill Grandstand, a new Horse Pavilion and accessibility improvements to the 20,000-seat Main Arena.
The early works are already underway including restoration of two heritage-listed grandstands and the planning and design activities for the Main Arena upgrade. The main works are expected to begin following the 2026 Ekka.
Lasting Community Legacy
Upon completion, the Brisbane Athletes Village will accommodate more than 10,000 athletes and officials during the Olympic Games and 5,000 during the Paralympic Games. Following the Games the Village will leave a lasting community legacy of around 1,800 new homes at the revitalized Brisbane Showgrounds precinct.

The development forms part of the broader Victoria Park Precinct thus helping create a connected destination for sport, entertainment, recreation, and community life that will benefit the Queenslanders for decades to come.
