The National Football League (NFL) team Buffalo Bills welcomed 51,807 fans to the 2026 Return of Blue & Red marking the first team event at their home ground – the Highmark Stadium in New York, US.

The 2026 Return of the Blue & Red was the Buffalo Bills inaugural open practice event held on August 8th, 2026. It marked the first large-scale public event and game-action test at the brand-new $2.1 billion Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park drawing over 51,000 fans.
Players’ Excitement
‘buffalobills.com’ further stated that the night of August 8th marked the first time in the Highmark Stadium for lots of players. As they stepped into their new home the energy and emotions of the night were on full display.
True New Home
Walking out of the tunnel for the first time the shock factor of the new building was evident on each player’s face. As the doors opened and the fans began to pile in the Highmark Stadium increasingly felt like a true new home.
Warm-ups
Said Bradley Chubb, Bills outside linebacker, “During warm-ups I was just looking around trying to get my bearings of everything … I’m glad to be a part of it, to be a part of this fanbase, this community. The first one in here was special.”
Packed House
The 60,108-capacity stadium was nearly full for the Return of the Blue & Red despite it being a practice. Bills Mafia (the fanbase of Buffalo Bills) was in full effect throughout the night with the big plays generating huge bursts of crowd noise.
‘Best Fans’
Added Dawson Knox, Bills tight end, “I don’t know how many other fanbases can pull something like that off. We have the best fans in the world. And I can’t wait to get out here when it starts becoming real, give these fans a show and bring home some wins.”
Exciting Place
Despite no games being played yet inside its walls the Highmark Stadium proved it will be an exciting place for football games for years to come.
‘Incredible Memories’
Continued Knox, “It still doesn’t feel real yet, just being out here looking around, it’s just incredible. “It’s the coolest place I’ve ever played football in. There’s going to be some incredible memories to be made here in the near future.”
Get Acclimated
While much of the focus was on the first time playing in the new Highmark Stadium the Buffalo Bills players also knew how important it was to use the August 8th night to get acclimated so they’re ready to go for the first preseason game on August 15th and the home opener for Week 2.
‘Win Games’
Enthused Greg Rousseau, Bills outside linebacker, “We love the new stadium, love everything about it. But we know when we’re in here it’s not time to enjoy the scenes in the venue. It’s time to play football. It’s time to win some games.”
