Columbus Crew SC to boast noise-boosting stadium

Columbus Crew SC new design

HNTB / Columbus Crew SC

A new 20,000-seat stadium boasting HNTB designs have been announced by Major League Soccer (MLS) team Columbus Crew SC. The designs will be so crafted so as to boost crowd noise and create the feel and ambience of real stadium action. A groundbreaking event is planned for October 10th.

A steep seating bowl in the facility will account for keeping fans and the noise they make stay close to the on-pitch action. A wrap-around roof will help to contain the crowd noise, reflecting it back through the crowd and on to the pitch.

“We are building a modern facility that is rooted in the culture created by our supporters in order to provide an experience that champions soccer in Columbus,” stated Tim Bezbatchenko, President of Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew SC and General Manager.

The inside of the stadium will feature a 360-degree concourse with views of the pitch. The concourse will be a link for different areas of the venue – seating, bars, two patio areas and a beer garden. This is said to be a first for the MLS.

A 40,000 sq ft (3,700 sq m) external plaza can be accessed through the concourse which will be used on match-days, for events and as a public space.

The other aspects of the arena will include suites with cantilevered ledge seats, an elevated concourse with views to downtown, and an integrated tifo rigging system, capo stands and a video board.
