The Academy Music Group (AMG) (UK) has appointed Liam Boylan as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

‘Music Week’ stated that Boylan is joining AMG – the owner and operator of live music and entertainment venues – as the CEO from the Wembley Stadium in London, where he was the Stadium Director.

London (UK)-based the Academy Music Group (AMG) is a leading owner-operator of music venues in the United Kingdom. They operate a number of medium-sized venues, the majority of which took the name Carling Academy after their sponsor Carling.

The 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium (branded as Wembley Stadium connected by EE for sponsorship reasons) is an association football stadium in Wembley, London (UK). It opened in 2007 on the site of the original Wembley Stadium, which had stood from 1923 until 2003. The stadium hosts major football matches including the home matches of the England national football team.

‘Music Week’ further stated that prior to joining the Wembley Stadium in 2015, Boylan worked with the SJM Concerts, touring the United Kingdom for 13 years, as well as a previous five-year tenure at the 21,000-capacity Manchester Arena in Manchester, England (UK).

Based in Manchester (UK), the SJM Concerts are at the forefront of the Live UK Music market, promoting many of the biggest acts in the concert industry.

He takes on the AMG role as the venues’ operator prepares to reopen the O2 Academy Brixton on April 19th.

The 2,315-capacity O2 Academy Brixton is a mid-sized concert venue located in South West London, in the Lambeth district of Brixton. Opening in 1929 as a cinema, the venue was converted into a discotheque in 1972, then reborn as a concert hall in 1983. In December 2022, two people died and others were seriously injured following a crowd crush at the door. The venue is currently closed and is scheduled to reopen on April 19th.

Remarked Boylan, “I am thrilled to step into the CEO role with AMG and its nationwide network of venues. Opportunities like this one with AMG are exceptional, and I look forward to enhancing a fantastic operation, and to future growth with this outstanding company.”

Concluded Denis Desmond, Chairman of AMG, “We’re delighted to welcome Liam to the AMG team and look forward to working with him. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the live industry and running major events. He will be a great asset.”
