CPL pack a punch Power Cricket for fans

New cricket format in the Caribbean

CPL

There is a new format coming to the Caribbean in 2022 with Cricket West Indies and the Caribbean Premier League bringing THE 6IXTYCricket’s Power Game.

The ‘Caribbean Premier League’ stated that the first edition of THE 6IXTY will see men’s and women’s teams compete in a new 60-ball tournament featuring many of the best cricketers from around the world with SKYEXCH the title sponsor for 2022.

Cricket West Indies (CWI), formerly known as West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), is the governing body for cricket in the West Indies (a sporting confederation of over a dozen mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries and dependencies that once formed the British West Indies). It was originally formed in the early 1920s as the West Indies Cricket Board of Control, but changed its name to West Indies Cricket Board in 1996. In November 2015, the Board resolved to rename itself as Cricket West Indies as part of a restructuring exercise that would also see the creation of a separate commercial body. This rebranding formally occurred in May 2017.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is an annual Twenty20 cricket tournament held in the Caribbean. It was founded by Cricket West Indies in 2013 to replace the Caribbean Twenty20 as the premier Twenty20 competition in the Caribbean. It is currently sponsored by Hero MotoCorp and consequently officially named the Hero CPL.

THE 6IXTY is a 60-ball cricket tournament featuring men’s and women’s teams. The first event will take place from August 24th to August 28th. This fast-paced and innovative format, known as Cricket’s Power Game, will see the world’s best cricketers entertain fans around the world.

THE 6IXTY is a joint venture between Cricket West Indies and the Caribbean Premier League with the two organizations working closely together to create another world-class event.

The ‘Caribbean Premier League’ further stated that this revolutionary format will see brand new innovations that will change T10 cricket and make the game even faster paced and action-packed.

Fans can look forward to the following exciting new rules:

The first edition of THE 6IXTY will take place from August 24th to August 28th in Saint Kitts and Nevis (country in the Caribbean) at one of world cricket’s fastest scoring grounds – the Warner Park. Future expansion plans of the 6IXTY include the potential of multiple events at different locations around the Caribbean and beyond.

The 8,000-capacity Warner Park Sporting Complex is an athletic facility in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis. It includes the Warner Park Stadium, which was one of the hosts for the 2007 Cricket World Cup. It is named after Sir Thomas Warner, the explorer who established the first English colony in Saint Kitts.

Said Ricky Skerritt, President of Cricket West Indies, “THE 6IXTY has come about because of a close collaboration between CPL and CWI which is the way forward. I am really excited about the innovation, excitement and entertainment that it is going to bring to the fans.”

Stated Pete Russell, Hero CPL’s head honcho, “This is a hugely exciting moment for both CPL and Cricket West Indies as we create a tournament that will see cricket fans brought closer to the game. There will be world-class men’s and women’s cricketers taking part in a fantastic event for the Caribbean and this combined with cutting-edge innovations, signals a great moment for all fans of West Indian cricket.”
