The French Football Federation and the French Rugby Federation have joined hands towards a common goal: To lower the rental price of the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, France.

The ‘L’Équipe’ stated that the above two entities have joined forces and have decided to work for lowering the rental of the Stade de France for the matches that the two federations organize in the enclosure of Saint-Denis every year.

The French Football Federation is the governing body of football in France. It also includes the overseas departments and the overseas collectivities and also Monaco. It was formed in 1919 and is based in the capital, Paris.

The French Rugby Federation is the governing body for rugby union in France. It is responsible for the French national team and the Ligue nationale de rugby that administers the country’s professional leagues.

The Stade de France is the national stadium of France, located just North of Paris in the commune of Saint-Denis. Its seating capacity of 80,698 makes it the seventh-largest stadium in Europe. The stadium is used by the France national football team and the France rugby union team for international competitions.

The ‘L’Équipe’ further stated that Noël Le Graët, President of the French Football Federation, and Bernard Laporte, President of the French Rugby Federation, met on April 19th and decided to drive a hard bargain to reduce the rental of the facility.

Presently, the French Football Federation pays around 2 million euros per match, and holds four games every year. For the French Rugby Federation, the damage comes to around one million euros per match.

The French Football Federation argued that to justify its rent expenses, it will have to enjoy more than 65,000 fans in each fixture.

Both Graët and Laporte want the rent to come down by 50 percent and the duo stated that they are ready to move to other venues if their demand is not met.
