Egypt will apply to host the Summer Olympic Games in 2036, the Egyptian Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Ashraf Sobhy stated recently, a bid that if successful would make it the first Arab or African nation to host the event.

‘Reuters’ stated that the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi gave the green light to apply, Minister Ashraf Sobhy added during a reception for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach in Cairo recently.

The 2036 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXVI Olympiad, is a forthcoming international multisport event. The winning bid for the Host City might be announced between 2025 and 2029.

‘Reuters’ further stated that the statement, issued by the Egyptian Cabinet, quoted Bach as saying that Egypt’s sports infrastructure was capable of hosting the event.

The Summer Olympics will be held in Paris (France) in 2024, followed by Los Angeles (US) in 2028 and Brisbane (Australia) in 2032.

The process of applying for to host the 2036 Olympics has not yet begun, while there are reports of interest from countries including Germany, Mexico, Turkey, Russia, India, and Qatar.
