The Eerste Divisie team FC Eindhoven will conduct a study to ascertain the feasibility of constructing a new home venue in Genneper Parken (Eindhoven, Netherlands).
Though the FC Eindhoven want upgrades to their present home – the Jan Louwers Stadium in Stratum, Netherlands – but they are firm on building a new home ground in the near future.
‘FC EINDHOVEN’ stated that the FC Eindhoven will be the driving force behind the new home stadium plans. The Municipality of Eindhoven is open to the team’s new digs plans idea and will play a key role in the study to be conducted.
The club is also planning to initiate upgrade measures in its current residence – the Jan Louwers Stadium in Stratum, Netherlands.
The FC Eindhoven is a professional football club based in Eindhoven, Netherlands, that competes in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football.
The Jan Louwers Stadium is a multiuse stadium in the Eindhoven borough of Stratum, Netherlands. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of the FC Eindhoven. The stadium is able to hold 4,200 spectators.
Jan Louwers Stadium
‘FC EINDHOVEN’ further stated that in tandem with the research agency Hypercube (a small, incisive and expert consultancy with a passion for sports and mobility based in Netherlands), the FC Eindhoven conducted a preliminary study vis-à-vis the future of the Jan Louwers Stadium. The stadium, built in 1934, holds a special place in the hearts of the Dutch football club and the City of Eindhoven. But the facility is aging and does not meet the standards of the schmick venues which a lot of countries boast today. Another cause of worry is the safety quotient of the arena. Moreover, since the venue sits in the heart of Genneper Parken (a unique nature reserve which blends sports, culture and recreation) it creates mobility issues for the fans.
The findings of the preliminary study revealed that the club needs a future-proof stadium that not only supports the FC Eindhoven’s sporting ambitions but also contributes to the development of the Genneper Parken and the City as a whole. The findings of this preliminary study have been shared with the Municipality of Eindhoven which has responded positively and has indicated that it will support a follow-up study. The follow-up study, which will be conducted in the coming months, will focus on certain aspects like relocating the stadium within the Genneper Parken precincts and making it a sustainable and multifunctional stadium.
The study, conducted with the assistance of the independent external agencies, will also have to address issues like spatial integration, sustainability, multifunctional use, and financial feasibility. The FC Eindhoven wants to engage in detailed discussions with the supporters, the members of the business club, the residents of Genneper Parken, and the experts from various fields to brainstorm how the Jan Louwers Stadium upgrade plans can be perfectly implemented.
Make a Case for New Venue
Observed Juul van Hout, Member, FC Eindhoven Supervisory Board, “The Jan Louwers Stadium occupies a special corner in our hearts. But, now is the time to look ahead. A new venue for the FC Eindhoven will be a shot in the arm for the team as well as the Genneper Parken and the Eindhoven City. I am pleased that the Municipality has also extended its support in this regard.”
Pointed out Pieter Nieuwenhuis, Director Hypercube, “We see a unique opportunity here to bring together sports, nature, sustainability, and innovation in a plan that sits well with the City of Eindhoven. The FC Eindhoven’s new venue ambition aligns well with the broader social goals.”
Pointed out Peter Bijvelds, FC Eindhoven General Manager (GM), “The Jan Louwers Stadium is my workplace. But, over the years, I have realized that the venue is worn out though it has a charm of its own. But, it is certainly not in sync with the spiffy venues of today and a new abode for the club is the need of the hour.”
Maintained Maes van Lanschot, Alderman for Sport, Municipality of Eindhoven, Netherlands, “As a Municipality we fully support the new venue plans for the FC Eindhoven within the Genneper Parken precincts. We are examining the plans along with the club.”
Refurbishment Plans
In recent seasons, the fans occupying the public stands entered through a single entrance point. Starting from the 2025-2026 seasons three entrances for the supporters will be thrown open. The stadium will be divided into four sections: Sections B and C, Sections D and E, Sections F, G and H, and Sections I, J and K.
In all the four sections the club is committed to lay a spread for the supporters, beautify the restrooms and lend a spruce-up look to the facility. But the plans may not get finalized before the start of the season as the team is dependent on various entities for implementing the same.
The FC Eindhoven also wants to improve the ingress and egress points of the stadium which the Jan Louwers Stadium woefully lacks.
Concluded Bijvelds, “Our long-term goal is to construct an avant-garde venue for the FC Eindhoven and the short-term goal is to start the makeover work of the Jan Louwers Stadium pronto. We seek the full support of all the stakeholders involved and look forward to a bright future for the Dutch club.”
