USA Swimming, the national governing body of swimming in the United States, announced on May 11th that they will host the final leg of the FINA Swimming World Cup 2022 from November 3rd to November 5th at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis (US). Other stops include Berlin, Germany from October 21st to October 23rd and Toronto, Canada, from October 28th to October 30th.
The ‘USA Swimming’ quoted the USA Swimming President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Hinchey III as stating, “We are proud to partner with FINA and our good friends in Indianapolis to welcome the global swimming community back to one of our nation’s premier venues for three days of high-stakes racing. The FINA Swimming World Cup is a great opportunity to showcase our sport and will serve as a critical test for American athletes as they compete against the best swimmers in the world in a short-course format.”
USA Swimming is the national governing body for competitive swimming in the United States. It is charged with selecting the United States Olympic Swimming team and any other teams that officially represent the United States, as well as the overall organization and operation of the sport within the country, in accordance with the Olympic and Amateur Sports Act. FINA is the international federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competitions in water sports. It is one of several international federations which administer a given sport or discipline for both the IOC and the international community.
The FINA Swimming World Cup is an international series of short course swimming meets organized by FINA, the International Federation for swimming. Launched in 1988, the FINA Swimming World Cup gathers world-class swimmers in a series of two-day meets organized between August and November each year.
The 4,700-capacity Indiana University Natatorium is a swimming complex on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States.
The ‘USA Swimming’ further stated that Indianapolis has recently hosted the FINA Champions Swim Series in 2019, the 6th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in 2017 and the 7th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2004. USA Swimming also announced earlier this year that Indianapolis will play host to the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming at the 70,000-capacity Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the National Football League’s (NFL’s) Indianapolis Colts.
The 2022 edition of the FINA Swimming World Cup slots into the international swimming competition calendar between the 19th FINA World Championships (June 18th to July 3rd) in Budapest, Hungary, and the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in December.
More than 750 athletes from 40 countries across five continents are expected to compete for an overall series prize pool of $1.2 million.
