There has been strong interest in the tender for general planning for the new Frankfurt Arena project since it was launched.
Frankfurter Allgemeine said some 180 companies from across Europe have signaled their interest following the legally required publication in the EU Official Journal and the Hessian tender database.
Earlier this year Sportpark Stadion Frankfurt (SSF) launched the Europe-wide tender for general planning services for the multifunctional arena which will be built next to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park stadium.
The tender covers planning services for the preliminary assessment and conceptual design phases for the Frankfurt Arena project.
The city’s stadium company SSF sees the strong interest as confirmation of the project’s viability.
As hoped, many renowned firms, including some from abroad, are among them. This can be seen as an indication that Frankfurt is on the right track with this project and will fill a market gap.
From the pool of interested parties, three to five bidders have been selected in accordance with procurement regulations. They are required to submit their bids by the end of May.
The contract for the general planning of Frankfurt multipurpose arena is expected to be awarded by the end of July.
The new multipurpose arena will be built in the immediate vicinity of the existing stadium and will serve as a modern venue for sports, concerts and other major events.
The future venue will offer new development potential, particularly for the Frankfurt Skyliners professional basketball club and Löwen Frankfurt professional ice hockey team.
The project also strengthens Frankfurt’s position as a sports and cultural center and makes a significant contribution to the further development of the city’s sports facilities.
For the Skyliners and Löwen Frankfurt, the new venue will open up long-term prospects in terms of infrastructure, marketing opportunities, spectator comfort, and competitiveness.
At the same time, it will provide flexible usage options for additional sports and cultural events at both national and international levels.
The arena is planned to be built for the site of the current stadium parking lot P9 and will have a capacity of over 15,000 visitors.
The general planning for the Frankfurt Arena projecten compasses tasks such as building design, structural engineering, and the technical equipment for the arena.
Furthermore, the general planner is responsible for the further development of the feasibility study completed in 2024, including clarifying fundamental planning and building regulations.
The development of the building’s architecture and facade design will be subject to separate tendering processes at a later stage.
Frankfurter Allgemeine further stated that the SSF’s transport department hired four new employees a few weeks ago who will focus exclusively on developing a traffic concept for the area around Deutsche Bank Park and the site of the multipurpose arena.
Soil surveys are planned for the construction site this year.
