The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) All-Star Game is coming to the Bay Area (US) next summer.
‘abc NEWS’ stated that the League Commissioner Cathy Engelbert made the announcement recently that the WNBA showcase game will be held on July 31st, 2027, at the Chase Center after a weekend of All-Star activities around the San Francisco Region (US).
The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) is a women’s professional basketball league in North America composed of 15 teams and is scheduled to expand to 18 by 2030. The WNBA is one of the professional women’s sports leagues in North America. The league is headquartered in New York City.
The WNBA All-Star Game is an annual exhibition basketball game hosted by the Women’s National Basketball Association each July to showcase the league’s top players as the centerpiece of the All-Star Weekend.
The 18,064-seat Chase Center is a multipurpose indoor arena in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco, California, United States.
‘Incredible Energy’
Engelbert sent out a statement which read, “We are thrilled to bring the AT&T WNBA All-Star to the San Francisco Bay Area for the first time. The WNBA team Golden State Valkyries (whose home is the Chase Center) have brought incredible energy and excitement to the WNBA from the moment they were announced as an expansion team in 2023 and the response from the fans across the Bay Area has been remarkable. The Valkyries fans have embraced this team with an extraordinary level of passion and enthusiasm and we can’t wait to see that energy on full display for an unforgettable All-Star weekend next summer.”
Great Host
‘abc NEWS’ further stated that at the All-Star Game in Chicago last month the players’ union President Nneka Ogwumike, who played in college at Stanford, said that many players felt that the Golden State would be a great host for next year’s mid-summer exhibition game.
The 2026 Coliseum Summit US was held at the Wrigley Field in Chicago from August 26th-27th.
Sold-out
Hosting the world-class events was always in the plans since long before the Chase Center opened in 2019. The Valkyries have sold out all of their home games since the franchise’s inception last year – and the team became the first expansion organization to make it to the playoffs in its inaugural year. The Golden State Valkyries lost to their peer team the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx. The Valkyries clinched a playoff berth for this year with a win over the Dallas Wings.
