City Hospital Birmingham
The City Hospital Birmingham first opened in the late 19th century. It was built using more than a million bricks produced at the Adderley Park Brickworks.
The site was originally known as the Birmingham Workhouse Infirmary before being renamed the Dudley Road Hospital in 1912. In 1948, the hospital became part of the newly-established National Health Service (NHS) thus offering medical, dental and nursing care to all.
The City Hospital closed after more than 130 years of service in 2024 with the original bricks removed and stored during the decommissioning process.
