A high-speed 6 GHz Wi-Fi network has been installed to power up the fan experience at the Honda Center arena in Anaheim, California.
Cox Communications deployed the system in partnership with OCVIBE, Extreme Networks, and Honda Center, making it the first indoor venue and arena in the U.S. to activate a Wi-Fi network on the 6 GHz spectrum.
The 18,336-capacity Honda Center is an indoor arena located in Anaheim, California, US. The arena is home to the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Originally named the Anaheim Arena during construction, it was completed in 1993 at a cost of $123 million.
Norman Rice, Chief Commercial Officer, Extreme Networks, said, “Fans today expect more than being able to cheer for their favorite teams or entertainers.
“They want to be able to share experiences in real-time with friends and family, stay up to date with the results of other games online, and purchase concessions without missing a moment of action.
“OCVIBE is creating a new best practice for venues by unifying entertainment with retail, dining, parks, sports, offices, and more, and Extreme and Cox are proud to deliver the high-speed Wi-Fi that will keep everything seamlessly connected.”
The innovation will provide:
- Blazing-fast speeds and lower latency
- Uncongested 6 GHz spectrum
- Support for thousands of connected devices
- Modernized operations and improved experiences
- Improved security across the network and seamless access for every guest
Jodi Duva, Vice President, Cox Business, said, “Cox’s portfolio of business services – including Cox Business and Hospitality Network – allowed us to partner with OCViBE, Extreme Networks, and Honda Center to deliver these next-gen solutions.
“Together, we’re not just powering connectivity—we’re redefining what’s possible for fans in a live entertainment environment.”
This is yet another example of Cox’s business portfolio powering the nation’s biggest moments—from the biggest football game of the year the past two years to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals and beyond.
Graham Siderius, Senior Vice President and Chief Partnerships Officer, OCVIBE, said, “At OCVIBE, everything we do is focused on creating an exceptional guest experience and that begins at Honda Center. Our partnership with Cox provides more than fast WiFi. It gives guests the ability to stay connected, navigate the venue with ease, and share their experiences in real time. This is the first step in bringing our vision for OCVIBE to life.”
Now, Honda Center sets the benchmark for modern-day fan engagement, with more venues expected to follow.
