A hotel with 50 rooms will be one of the attractions of the nine-story complex that will be built in place of the toboggan run at the Paulo Machado de Carvalho Municipal Stadium, the Pacaembu (Brazil).
The ‘News Bulletin 247’ stated that an announcement regarding the same was made at a presser held on November 30th at the stadium which was attended by São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and Eduardo Barella, a businessman who, with the concessionaire Allegra, runs the show of the above venue.
The 40,199 Estádio Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho, colloquially known as Estádio do Pacaembu, is an Art Deco stadium in São Paulo (Brazil) and sits in the Pacaembu neighborhood. The stadium is owned by the Municipal Prefecture of São Paulo.
The ‘News Bulletin 247’ further stated that Concessionária Allegra Pacaembu struck a deal with UMusic Hotels. The hotel will occupy two floors of the central block of the new 40,000 m² complexes, as well as part of the East and West blocks. Depending on the location of the reserved room, guests will be able to watch games and shows through the window. The hotel will also boast a private pool.
UMusic Hotels is a joint venture between the Universal Music Group and Dakia U-Ventures creating a new global collective of immersive hotels and experiences inspired by music.
Allegra took over the reins of the stadium for 35 years in January 2020 and plans to invest up to R$ 400 million by the end of 2023. The idea, explained Barella, is for the concessionaire to be responsible for restructuring the complex.
UMusic will manage the development’s other areas such as creative spaces, food and beverage activations with a nod to São Paulo’s cultural heritage. The company is also mulling coming up with a recording studio.
Food and beverage activations serve as key brand touchpoints that highlight a product’s best uses and helping consumers imagine how they themselves could make use of the offering.
As per Barella’s calculations, UMusic should invest around R$100 million in the hotel, but the lodging charges of the hotel has still not been decided.
Explained Barella, “The hotel will neither be a luxury hotel nor a very cheap one. Generation Z believes in luxuriant experiences and Pacaembu has a history of providing enchanting experiences.”
The space where the new complex will be built was occupied by the toboggan – a long, light, narrow vehicle, typically on runners, used for sliding downhill over snow or ice.
Other attractions will also include an art gallery, music studio, hotel, and event center.
Barella said that Pacaembu was previously focused only on football. But now they are trying to delve deep into culture and art.
In 2020, the Concessionária Allegra Pacaembu stated that it was considering placing mobile bleachers on days when big-ticket soccer games are played to increase the stadium capacity.
In all, the complex will enjoy nine floors, five of them above ground and four below. One of them will function as a walkway connecting Desembargador Paulo Passaláquan and Itápolis streets with the objective of integrating the complex further into the neighborhood.
On the rest of the floors will sit stores, coworking spaces, restaurants, offices, and venues for events. Priority will also be given to esports, the new flavor, with the creation of a Battle Royale arena where 100-plus players will be able to compete simultaneously.
The stadium complex will also boast an art gallery.
Toboggan demolition
The demolition of the toboggan was imperative to implement the Allegra Pacaembu project.
In January 2021, however, the São Paulo Court passed an order barring the pulling down of the toboggan on request from the Viva Pacaembu Association.
In March this year, Judge Maria Gabriella Pavlópoulos Spaolonzi from the 13th Court of the Central Public Treasury of the Capital, reconsidered the decision after discovering that there was no such rule in place which prevents the demolition of the toboggan.
In late June this year, the demolition work of the toboggan began manually so as not to damage the rest of the stadium.
