The Argentine professional sports club River Plate has picked up multinational corporation IDOM to conduct a study as regards the total spruce-up of its home arena – the River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Club Atlético River Plate, commonly known as River Plate, is an Argentine professional sports club based in the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires (Argentina), and was founded on May 25th, 1901, and named after the English name for the City’s estuary, Río de la Plata. Although many sports are practiced at the club, River Plate is best known for its professional football team, which has won Argentina’s Primera División championship a record 36 times.
The 72,054-capacity Estadio ‘Monumental’ Antonio Vespucio Liberti, also referred to as River Plate Stadium, Monumental de Nuñez, or simply El Monumental, is a stadium in Belgrano, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is home of the football club River Plate.
The River Plate is going ahead with carrying out a total redevelopment of its home ground while maintaining the pristine sheen of the iconic stadium. The facility will wear an avant-garde look to measure up to the standards of the spiffy stadia coming up all over the globe.
The ‘River Plate’ stated that the stadium capacity will be expanded to make it the largest in South America and once renovated, the venue will provide fans plush facilities.
Presently, IDOM is carrying out an extensive study as regards the revamp of the River Plate Stadium and once it presents its study report, and the project is presented by the club’s President Jorge Brito, the club’s General Secretary, Stefano Di Carlo, and the President of Infrastructure, Mariano Taratuty, and is unanimously approved by the Board of Directors and by the Assembly of Partner Representatives, work on the second phase of stadium redecoration will start.
The ‘River Plate’ further stated that as a new pitch has been installed with hybrid technology that allows the ball to move faster and quickly removes excess water as part of the first phase of revamp work and the athletics track will be removed, the same will facilitate to set up stands with fans getting a close view of the pitch action. A single exit tunnel will be constructed and the focus will be on the San Martín grandstand which will provide internal views from the paddock keeping in tune with the style followed by the majestic stadia of Europe.
An expansion of the number of boxes in the middle grandstands is also being mulled which would encompass the existing boxes in the San Martín and Belgrano stands. New hospitality space will come up, three parking floors will be constructed, an eatery will be set up where gastronomes can munch their gourmet food and enjoy direct view of the pitch action. The stadium facilities will set a benchmark not only for the River neighborhood but for the whole of the Latin America region.
In the final phase of the venue makeover work, new seats would be placed and River Plate promises that their refurbished home facility will be one of the most state-of-the-art in South America.
