It’s reported that Serie A stadiums (Italy) will come down to 50 percent capacity and the chequerboard seating plan will return following the Omicron variant of COVID-19 gobbling half of the world with Europe and the United States facing the maximum onslaught. The latest news is that Italy’s coronavirus cases hit new daily record of 219,441 on January 6th, 2022.
The ‘Football Italia’ stated that the Italian Government is taking action after almost 100,000 new COVID-19 cases were registered in the country recently.
The curbs include restrictions on attendance for football matches in open-air stadiums following the Serie A games which got off to a start on January 6th, 2022.
The 2021-2022 Serie A campaign started on August 21st, 2021 and will end on May 22nd, 2022.
Serie A, also called Serie A TIM for sponsorship reasons, is a professional league competition for football clubs located at the top of the Italian football league system.
The ‘Football Italia’ further stated that the stadium capacities have come down from 75 percent to 50 percent and the chequerboard pattern is being followed to maintain maximum social distancing.
A rule already exists which requires supporters wear face coverings at all times while in the stands, while the Green Pass will alone no longer suffice to gain ingress into stadia.
Now, fans will have to show the Super Green Pass, showing proof of vaccination or recent recovery from COVID-19. So, a negative coronavirus test within 48 hours of the event is no longer acceptable.
Unlike many other leagues, Serie A never returned to 100 percent capacity after the first lockdown was clamped in March 2020 when coronavirus broke out globally and the dreaded virus is still continuing to clobber the world.
Elsewhere, Spain is also reducing venues’ capacities to 75 percent, while countries like Germany and France are holding closed-door games.
