NEC Nijmegen Goffert Stadium sustainable renovation-expansion

NEC Nijmegen has presented an expansion of stadium capacity plan

The professional Dutch association football club NEC Nijmegen (the Netherlands) presented its new stadium plans recently during the annual Fan Day.
 

Expanded-Renovated

‘ESPN’ stated that the NEC Nijmegen’s home pitch – the Goffert Stadium in Nijmegen, The Netherlands – will be expanded and renovated in the coming years. The NEC Nijmegen aims to increase the stadium’s capacity to 15,000 seats.

Sustainability will be accorded topmost priority in the above development.

The NEC Nijmegen, commonly known as the NEC, is a professional Dutch association football club based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The club currently competes in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football.

The 12,650-seat Goffert Stadium is a football stadium in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, located in the Goffertpark (a large 83-hectare urban park in Nijmegen). It is home to the football club NEC Nijmegen.
 

Phased Renovation

‘ESPN’ further stated that according to the NEC Nijmegen the renovation of the Goffert Stadium will proceed in phases and is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2027. The entire reconstruction exercise is estimated to take approximately seven years in total.

The club stated, “To secure our future the renovation and phased expansion of the Goffert Stadium has become mandatory.”
 

Capacity Expansion

The existing stands are being extended to the pitch. As a result, the number of seats and the standing places increases to 15,000. Ultimately, the capacity is expected to be slightly higher.

The top-flight stated, “The expansion from approximately 12,650 to an eventual 17,500 seats is being carried out carefully and in phases.”
