The new South Stand at Meinau Stadium, home of Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace in Alsace, France has been inaugurated.
Architect Populous said that with construction starting in August 2023, the new stand was completed this summer for the resumption of the French Ligue 1 championship.
It was operational to host the first home match of the 2025-2026 season when Racing played Danish club BrØndy IF in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League play-off.
The stand has 21,500 m² of floor space, a height of 47 metres (compared to 26 metres before the renovation), 1 overhang of 52 metres, 6,000 additional seats and new hospitality areas, creating a new experience for the fans, players and officials.
The façade of the South stand represents a world-first, with the 60 of 196 sunshade panels made of upcycled A340 aircraft fuselages already installed, a unique sustainable stadium innovation.
The 27,500-capacity Meinau Stadium is a football stadium in Strasbourg, France. It is the home ground of RC Strasbourg Alsace and has also hosted international matches, including one game of the 1938 World Cup, two games of EURO 1984 and the final of the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Cup Winners’ Cup in 1988.
