Nottingham Forest stadium plans proceed

Nottingham Forest new stadium

Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest has confirmed that after ‘extensive negotiations’ with the City Council, it has reached an agreement to extend its lease on The City Ground according to a statement on the club’s official website.

The extension of the lease has made it possible for the club to now redevelop The City Ground and its surrounding areas. The first and foremost part of this redevelopment will be the construction of a new and world-class Peter Taylor stand along with up gradation of the Trentside area, Brian Clough and Bridgford Stands.

With the new Peter Taylor stand will come top-notch facilities including a new club shop, range of hospitality lounge options, restaurants, a museum, and executive boxes. The redevelopment project will also see new spacious concourses for general-admission supporters as well as better facilities for the club’s supporters with disabilities with a substantial increase in wheelchair spaces.

The next stage after the agreement will be the club’s consultation and engagement with its supporters before taking any further steps. The owner, Evangelos Marinakis said that he would like the fans to play an important role in the decision-making when the public consultation begins according to the BBC website report.

The club is expecting the construction work to start at the end of the 2019-20 season, depending on the progress of the consultation. The City Ground has not had any major development since the last 25 years. The current project’s scale and finance will be the biggest the stadium has seen.

The project is ‘born in Nottingham, designed in Nottingham, built in Nottingham, from and for the people of Nottingham’, designed by globally renowned Benoy Architects.

According to the BBC website, the revamp will bring the capacity of the ground to 38,000, making it the biggest in the East Midlands ahead of Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium and Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.
