The Camping World Stadium in Orlando (Florida, US) could be in for a facelift in all aspects of the fashion-to-function (the designs that prioritize both the aesthetic appeal [fashion] and the practical purpose [function]), according to the architecture firm DLR Group Inc., proposing the new design.
‘clickorlando.com’ stated that an application received recently by the City’s (Orlando) Municipal Planning Board requests a conditional use permit to allow for the expansion and renovation of the Camping World Stadium.
The 60,219-capacity Camping World Stadium is an outdoor stadium in Orlando, Florida, United States located in the West Lakes neighborhood of Downtown Orlando.
Omaha (US)-based the DLR Group Inc., is an integrated design firm delivering architecture, engineering, interiors, planning, and building optimization for new construction, renovation and adaptive reuse.
‘clickorlando.com’ further stated that renderings of the potential new design, provided by the DLR Group Inc., depict flowing metallic forms rippling around the stadium, a uniform artificial material taking on an organic shape that the firm refers to as “a new modern and fresh building skin”.
In the design narrative the architecture firm goes on to say its specific project goals include the maximization of the stadium seating to 65,000 helped in large part by the addition of an upper bowl on the North side of the structure and the rebuilding of the upper seating bowls on the East and West sides.
The statement read, “This all-new seating will modernize and increase the overall lifespan of the building replacing some of the oldest existing components. The level of bowl modifications will require addition of new hurricane bracing around the altered sections of the building. Using this structural component as an aesthetic feature a new modern and fresh building skin will be applied to offer a new exterior aesthetic.”
The firm states it wants to include new premium suites and amenities, update the building’s “systems, code and life safety” aspects and even add a retractable stage pocket in a section of the South seating bowl “to attract more and larger” events.
