English Premier League club Nottingham Forest has submitted new planning applications for the redevelopment of the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest said the club’s home for over 120 years will see a significant investment made by owner Evangelos Marinakis to deliver a sustainable and iconic design which increases the stadium’s capacity to over 50,000.

The redevelopment will be an integral part of the economic growth of the city and the wider region.

The new application comes after plans to expand the ground’s capacity from about 30,000 to 35,000 – by demolishing and rebuilding the existing Peter Taylor Stand – were given the go ahead by Rushcliffe Borough Council last June.

The new application reflects plans for a much bigger redevelopment of the City Ground on the banks of the River Trent.

Forest said in a statement, “The Club is grateful for the positive public engagement and overwhelming support shown for our proposals ahead of the planning submission.

“We would also like to thank our key partners, Gleeds, KSS Design Group, Buro Happold, and Savills for their support to date.

“We look forward to working with the Mayor of the East Midlands, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council, as well as our supporters and the wider community, to achieve a successful outcome in the near future.”

Top executives from Nottingham Forest F.C. will be among the 50+ speakers at the Coliseum Summit EUROPE at Fulham Pier in London from March 24-25.

Nottingham Forest Football Club is a professional association football club based in West Bridgford, Nottingham, England (UK). The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.

The City Ground is a football stadium in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, England (UK) on the banks of the River Trent. It has been home to Nottingham Forest F.C. since 1898 and has a capacity of 30,455.

Nottingham Forest late last year revealed plans for an expansion of the City Ground that would seat around 52,000.

The Midlands club outlined a desire to start the redevelopment this summer on what would involve extensive work on three of its four stands.

In the first phase this would increase capacity from 31,000 to 45,000, before a redevelopment of the Brian Clough Stand to grow the ground’s capacity by up to 7,000 more.

Part of the new plans involves a new 58-meter Peter Taylor Stand, which would be 20 meters taller than the first-proposed 38-meter stand and only three metres below the dome of the city’s tallest building, the Nottingham Council House.

East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward backed the plans at a pre-launch event at the City Ground in December.

Ward previously said she envisioned an upgraded stadium as the centerpiece of a Trent Sports Quarter including the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Meadow Lane – Notts County’s home – and the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont Country Park.

The Labour mayor said the redevelopment would bring “huge benefits” for the city and wider area.
