The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave is an under-construction sports enclave being built in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Once the sports enclave is fully built, it will be one of the largest of its kind in India.

The 2036 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXVI Olympiad, is a forthcoming international multisport event.

In October 2023 at the 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session held in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally declared India’s interest in bidding for the 2036 Olympics. If India’s bid is approved, it would be the first time India hosted the Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is a non-Governmental sports organization based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Founded in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin and Demetrios Vikelas, it is the authority responsible for organizing the modern Olympic Games.

The ‘LinkedIn Post By Siddharth Soni, Principal, Populous’ further stated that “Drawing upon our experience of having been involved in multiple editions of the past Olympic Games, the design captures the essence of Ahmedabad and the regeneration and activation of the entire 350-acre site along the Sabarmati River adjacent to the Populous-designed Narendra Modi Stadium.”

The Narendra Modi Stadium (NMS), also known as the Motera Stadium, is an international cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is the largest stadium in the world, with a seating capacity of 132,000 spectators. The stadium is owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association and serves as the venue for domestic and international cricket matches. It is one of the world’s premier cricket stadiums.

“The Populous team has conceptualized each of the five venues to be capable of hosting multiple Olympic sports and have been designed for maximum flexibility. The venues include a new 50,000-seat football stadium, a 10,000-15,000-seat tennis center, two new multipurpose arenas above 15,000 seats, and a 12,000-seat aquatic center. In addition to the venues, the public space design includes parkland, plazas including the central Ring of Unity, paying respect to Sardar Vallabhbhbai Patel, outdoor sports fields, and an artificial beach along the riverfront. The enclave is envisioned as a vibrant public space with a strong long-term legacy for the people of Ahmedabad.”

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was an Indian independence nationalist and barrister who served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India from 1947 to 1950.
