The Premier League (UK) will stage a six-team Summer Series across five Eastern Cities in the United States in July, headlined by Chelsea F.C. and the Newcastle United F.C., the league announced recently.

‘ESPN’ stated that having previously arranged a biennial Premier League Asia Trophy dating back to 2003, the Premier League will host a preseason tournament in the United States for the first time from July 22nd-30th.

London (UK)-based the Premier League is the highest level of the English football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English Football League (EFL). Seasons typically run from August to May with each team playing 38 matches.

‘ESPN’ further stated that with Manchester United F.C., Liverpool F.C. and Arsenal F.C. also planning to play Summer friendlies in the United States, the above news means that almost half of the Premier League’s 20 teams will prepare for the 2023-2024 seasons in North America.

Remarked Richard Masters, Premier League Chief Executive, “We are delighted to be bringing six clubs to the USA in July for the first-ever Premier League Summer Series. Our clubs have incredible supporters in the United States who passionately follow their teams throughout the season. We have seen this dedication first-hand from the tens of thousands who have attended our Mornings Live fan events and are excited to be building on this by bringing live Premier League action to five Cities this Summer. We are currently enjoying one of the most competitive Premier League seasons of all time at both ends of the table, and I am sure we will see some thrilling matches during the tournament.”

Chelsea F.C. will face Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. in the opening Summer Series game at Philadelphia’s 67,594-capacity Lincoln Financial Field on July 22nd, with the Fulham F.C. facing Brentford F.C. and the Newcastle United F.C. taking on the Aston Villa F.C. at the same venue the next day.

Three games on July 26th will pit Brentford F.C. against Brighton F.C. in Atlanta, Fulham F.C. vs. Aston Villa F.C. in Orlando and Chelsea F.C. taking on Newcastle United F.C. in the late game at Atlanta’s 74,295-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Brighton will play Newcastle at the 25,000-capacity Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, on July 28th before the 82,000-capacity FedEx Field in Maryland hosts Villa against Brentford and Chelsea against Fulham on July 30th.
