The Galaxy Stadium in Lubbock, Texas (US), home of the Red Raiders Football since November 29th, 1947, is widely recognized as one of the most electric gameday environments in college football. New Era
‘texastech.com’ stated that beginning with the 2026 football season the stadium enters a new era at the Galaxy Stadium through a landmark 15-year naming rights partnership between the Texas Tech Athletics and Galaxy, a global leader in data center infrastructure and digital assets. The Red Raiders will play their first game under the Galaxy Stadium name on September 5th, 2026, against the Abilene Christian Wildcats.

‘texastech.com’ further stated that the partnership extends beyond the traditional stadium naming rights to include Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for the Texas Tech student-athletes, the original content, the enhanced fan engagement, and the meaningful community involvement throughout West Texas. Galaxy will also serve as the official data center and digital assets partner of the Texas Tech Athletics.
Strategic Relationship
Galaxy’s investment in the region is anchored by its Helios data center campus in Dickens County (County in Texas). The broader strategic relationship with Texas Tech will explore opportunities involving digital innovation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), research, workforce development, and continued economic investment across West Texas.
A Transformed Stadium Experience
The Galaxy Stadium has undergone significant improvements throughout its history, most recently through Texas Tech’s $242 million investment in the South End Zone Building and the Dustin R. Womble Football Center (sports complex in Lubbock, Texas). The project enclosed the South end of the stadium and introduced an expanded concourse, the new entry gates, the premium seating areas, the additional concessions, and new ground-level views of the field.
Additional Enhancements
The additional enhancements include three video displays, five ribbon boards, a state-of-the-art sound system, and the reimagined Double T scoreboard. The South End Zone Building connects directly to the Dustin R. Womble Football Center thus creating a comprehensive football complex designed to support the student-athlete development, recruiting, the football operations, and the Red Raider gameday experience.
Premier On-campus Football Venue
The previous renovations have also played an important role in the stadium’s evolution. Texas Tech added new bleachers and seatbacks in 2015, introduced the additional premium seating and a renovated North end zone club area in 2014 and completed a major North end zone videoboard and sound system project in 2013. The East and West stadium buildings added the suites, the club seating, the media facilities, the concessions, the restrooms, and the other amenities that helped establish the stadium as one of the premier on-campus football venues in the country.
Stadium History and Jones Legacy
The stadium originally opened as the Jones Stadium in honor of the former Texas Tech President Clifford B. Jones and his wife Aubrey. It became the Jones SBC Stadium in 2000 following a significant investment from the SBC Communications and was renamed the Jones AT&T Stadium in 2006 after the company changed its name to AT&T (a major American telecommunications and technology corporation).
For nearly eight decades the Jones name remained an important part of the stadium and the history of Texas Tech Football. Clifford B. Jones’ vision for the university and the original gift helped establish an early foundation for both Texas Tech and its football program. The Jones family’s legacy will remain woven into the history of the university with additional plans to honor the stadium’s original namesake to be announced at a later date.
