French Ligue 1 club Paris St Germain (PSG) has sent out a survey to fans in a bid to better understand their match-day expectations.
Le Parisien said the club’s management is also taking the opportunity to find out what the construction of a stadium in Poissy (Yvelines) or Massy (Essonne) would change in their habits.
In the long questionnaire sent to its supporters, the club does not mention the possibility of remaining at the Parc des Princes.
More than 90,000 PSG supporters have received the questionnaire by email and this extremely detailed consultation will be an invaluable insight for management.
Extensive feasibility studies have been underway since June in Massy (Essonne) and Poissy (Yvelines), the two sites where the club could build its new stadium.
The goal is to precisely identify the fans’ habits and desires in order to offer them a tailor-made “experience,” not just on match days.
Paris Saint Germain Football Club, commonly referred to as Paris Saint-Germain or simply PSG, is a French professional football club based in Paris (France). They compete in Ligue 1, the top division of French football.
With 52 major trophies won, PSG are the most decorated club in France and are generally considered the country’s biggest club and a leading force on the European stage.
The team plays at the 48,229-capacity Parc des Princes, an all-seater football stadium in Paris, France.
PSG is seeking to make its future stadium a place where fans and their families can come and have fun 365 days a year.
The very long questionnaire, which could take between 20 and 30 minutes to fill in, should also help gauge public awareness of the projects in Massy and Poissy.
Would fans be willing to travel to either venue? What means of transportation would they prefer? Would it take them more or less time? Do they travel alone, with family, or with friends? These are all questions that could have an impact when it comes to deciding between the two cities.
Another part of the survey focuses on the activities and services that could attract fans in and around the stadium: restaurants, a shop, but also a leisure area with a possible bowling alley, laser tag, or gym, etc.
The objective is to clearly define what could attract fans and prolong their experience after matches. By definition, the longer a fan stays in a complex, the more they spend. Currently, at the Parc des Princes, except for box holders, nothing is offered to keep fans staying longer.
Another point of great interest to the club is to understand what events are likely to attract its fans outside of football matches.
The future stadium, like the Stade de France, will be a must-play venue for huge concerts by international stars. This is a significant source of profit that PSG intends to take full advantage of regardless of the season, since, like all modern stadiums, the new stadium is expected to feature a retractable pitch and roof.
Hence the importance of knowing, now, the tastes of the fans who will, perhaps, be the future spectators of non-sporting events held at the stadium.
The club is also seeking to understand everything that can improve the spectator experience: seat width, connectivity, family zones, sound system, architecture, giant screens, etc.
This large-scale consultation will be open for one month. The results are not intended to be made public but will serve to inform decision-makers’ thinking.
In March 2023, the club had already surveyed its supporters to find out their preferences among four possible options, including the renovation of the Parc des Princes, a choice overwhelmingly favored by the fans.
This time, PSG remaining at the Porte de Saint-Cloud stadium (Paris 16th arrondissement) is not on the survey, as it is not among the options being considered by the club.
