Spanish La Liga club Real Mallorca’s new Estadi Mallorca Son Moix has been inaugurated after a €30 million renovation.

The work has taken 601 days to carry out by construction teams working alongside architect Izaskun Larzabal.

The 23,142-capacity Mallorca Son Moix Stadium is located in Palma de Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain, and serves as the home ground of RCD Mallorca. It is the largest stadium in the Balearic Islands and the 26th largest in Spain.

RCD Mallorca’s aim of the redevelopment was to bring fans closer to the action by removing the athletics track and renovating large parts for the ground.

The south end of the stadium was the last area to be refurbished and made its debut in the match against Celta de Vigo.

Although the match against the Galicians was the main focus of attention, RCD Mallorca wanted everyone to enjoy the important day in its history before kick-off and hosted different activities in the morning.

Some 2,000 fans were invited to enjoy Paella on one of the concourses, while there were also performances by Mallorcan artists Marc Seguí, Sahra Lee and the DJ Aina Losange.

The Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, the Son Dameto Choir and the Municipal Band of Palma, which played the RCD Mallorca anthem and La Balanguera, also entertained the fans.

Sustainability was at the forefront of the redevelopment, with the club striving to reduce its carbon footprint.

The redesign of the stadium included:

The construction work, which started in 2022, was carried out in several phases.

As part of the upgrades, RCD Mallorca expanded its VIP hospitality offerings and the club now offers seven packages: Footprint Tunnel Experience, Premium Seats – Player Walk Out, The Premium Club, Stadium Restaurant Experience, Presidential Lounge, VIP Box North, and VIP Box West.

Each possesses something slightly different, but the common theme is to deliver high-quality gastronomy, dedicated service and fun pre-match and post-match entertainment. Providing unrivaled access has also been a longstanding objective, such as with the club’s well-established ‘Tercer Tiempo’ (‘The Third Half’) period, which has been in place since before the pandemic and which allows the VIPs to enjoy a meet-and-greet moment with the players and coaches after the game.
