The reconstruction plans of the Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan, South Korea, a pride of the Baseball City of Busan, is gaining momentum and has passed the strict Central investment review.

‘MAEIL BUSINESS NEWSPAPER’ stated that the Busan Metropolitan Government announced recently that the Sajik Baseball Stadium reconstruction project passed the Ministry of Public Administration and Security’s intensive review.

The Sajik Baseball Stadium is a baseball stadium in Sajik-dong, Dongnae-gu, Busan, South Korea. It was built in 1985 and is the home stadium of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club Lotte Giants. It has a seating capacity of 24,500. It is known as the Mecca of Korean baseball.

The Lotte Giants are a South Korean professional baseball team based in Busan (South Korea). They are a member of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) League. The Lotte Giants are owned by the Lotte Corporation.

Seoul (South Korea)-based the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) is the governing body for professional baseball in South Korea. It was established in 1981 and manages the KBO League, the top professional baseball league in the country.

Seoul (South Korea)-based the Lotte Corporation is a South Korean multinational conglomerate corporation and the fifth-largest chaebol (a large family-owned business) in South Korea. Lotte was founded on June 28th, 1948 by the Korean businessman Shin Kyuk-ho in Tokyo.

‘MAEIL BUSINESS NEWSPAPER’ further stated that the new projects with a project cost of more than 50 billion won will first have to pass muster from the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration.

Wonju (South Korea)-based the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration (KRILA) is a specialized research institute in South Korea dedicated to the fields of decentralization, local administration, local finance and economy, and balanced regional development. It serves as a key think tank for the local autonomy and regional development conducting field-oriented policy research and consulting to support the local Governments and enhance practical applications of the national policy tasks.

The Busan Metropolitan Government’s proposal was rejected in April because a clear picture was not given on how to secure 29.9 billion won in State funds. In response, the Busan Metropolitan Government submitted a reconstruction plan to cover 81.7 billion won in Lotte charges and the remaining 210.7 billion won out of 292.4 billion won in project costs and passed the second heavy investment process.

The Busan Metropolitan Government plans to lower the financial burden by issuing local bonds and receiving State funds by participating in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s public offering project.

The Sajik Baseball Stadium opened in 1985 and is in dire need of upgrade works and the safety quotient of the venue is also a major cause of worry. Work is now expected to begin in right earnest.

The design contest will be held next year and the objective is to complete the redecoration work of the above facility between 2028 to 2030 and the Sajik Baseball Stadium is set to reopen in March 2031.

The Lotto Giants will play in the nearby 53,864-capacity Busan Asiad Main Stadium while the redevelopment works of their home ground are on.

The Busan Metropolitan Government plans to recreate the Sajik Baseball Stadium as a “future- smart stadium” which will combine cutting-edge technology and the eco-friendly elements. The rejig arena will come armed with a real-time game data analysis system such as pitch-type, batting average, player information, displaying safe movement lines and guiding seats based on the mobile apps, and augmented reality (AR) photo zones where the fans seem to take pictures with the players.

Outside the ballpark smart landscape lighting will be equipped and a media device that will provide information on game schedules, player introductions will be installed so that the fans get updated information even on non-matchdays.

The Busan Metropolitan Government plans to form an organization and an expert advisory group to expedite the project and shape a systematic reconstruction plan.
