The City of Oulu in Finland has chosen a consortium formed by SRV and Trevian to build the Oulu Experience Arena and Environment project.

SRV Group said the project will start with a two-year development and urban planning phase.

If it goes ahead, construction of the experience arena aims to start in 2028 and be completed in 2030.

By the end of 2027, the project will make a final decision on the investment and construction of the arena, after which, if implemented, the project would be recorded in SRV’s order backlog gradually and in stages from 2028 onwards.

If completed, SRV’s share of the construction contract would be estimated to exceed €100 million.

Together with Trevian, the Raksila 2.0 project will develop an experience arena located at the western end of the current market block, as well as a practice ice rink and a parking facility in connection with it.

The capacity of the arena is approximately 8,740 spectators for sports and 11,650 spectators for concerts.

The arena is part of a larger development of the city centre of Oulu. In addition to the experience arena, the project also includes plots now reserved for SRV that participated in the competition, and which are intended to be developed into grocery store premises, business premises and housing.

During the next two-year development period, the plan is also to contribute further the wider development of the area.

Hannu Lokka, Senior Vice President, Strategic Project Development at SRV said, “We thank the City of Oulu for the trust placed in our Raksila 2.0 business consortium and for the interesting and cooperative competition process that has lasted for about 1.5 years.

Although the main focus of the competition has been on the plans, conceptualisation and economic modelling of the future Oulu Experience Arena, our proposal also serves as a starting point for the wider urban development of the centre of Oulu.

“The aim is to combine the old grid plan centre of Oulu and the part of the Raksila district into one attractive city centre. If implemented in the proposed form, the construction of the area will take place over a long period of time,”

Reima Södervall, CEO of Trevian, added, “At the beginning of the year, Trevian bought the Helsinki Hall, which is now the Veikkaus Arena.

Oulu is Trevian’s second hometown, and it is great to be involved in developing its vitality and the experiences it offers to city residents with this project. The future of Oulu is important to us, and we want to do our part to promote societally significant projects through our real estate expertise – in Oulu, Helsinki and across Finland.”

SRV has previously implemented the world-class Nokia Arena experience arena in the centre of Tampere and the wooden Satama Arena in Kotka.

SRV is currently building the Hyvinkää Arena – a multi-purpose arena in Hyvinkää.

SRV is also involved in the development phase of the Turun Ratapiha project, in which a multi-purpose arena and a related hotel, offices and parking facility are being developed in the new district of the Turku Ratapiha.

In addition, SRV is developing the Garden Helsinki project, which plans to develop a multi-purpose arena and the related hotel, office, parking facility and residential buildings in the Töölö district of Helsinki.
