Buro Happold – world-leading international engineering and consultancy business – has announced that David Hines – an expert hand – has joined its Sports and Entertainment business. Hines will work alongside Matthew Birchall and Christopher Shrubshall as a Director in Venue Consultancy.

Katja Poguntke, BD Associate, Global Sport & Entertainment, Buro Happold, UK, is a Member of Coliseum – Global Sports Venue Alliance.

A press release issued in this context by Buro Happold stated that Hines had earlier worked at the American multinational engineering firm AECOM and eminent design practice Populous, and he was also involved with the Sochi Olympic Stadium in Russia and the Aviva Stadium in Ireland, as well as the proposed new arena for MSG in Stratford, East London. His extensive experience of the architectural design of global sports venues specifically enhances the design assist and venue planning services Buro Happold offers to its clients and collaborators.

Hines expertise will also help improve all aspects from initial brief development to a coordinated project delivery across the wider specialist disciplines offered by Buro Happold’s engineering teams.

Stated Matthew Birchall, Buro Happold’s Global Sector Leader, “We appreciate that to work better with our architectural collaborators and clients we need to employ experts who know how architects think. As a world-leading engineering and consultancy business, we know that having strategic architectural consultancy skills will help us integrate and coordinate our work better with the wider project team, and ultimately help deliver better value and better performing venues for our clients.”

The Buro Happold release quoted David Hines as saying, “I am delighted to be joining Buro Happold and to be working alongside colleagues with whom I have already successfully delivered several venues. We have a shared common interest in optimizing venues through a combination of specialist experience and computational tools, and I look forward to working closely with our engineering teams again.”

Hines added, “A key part of my role at Buro Happold will be to provide specialist technical consultancy alongside architects in the development and delivery of sports and entertainment projects – co-creating exciting new and repurposed venues that are genuine additions to our sustainable communities.”
