The LaLiga club Villarreal CF (Spain) presented refurbishment plans of its residence on May 11th – the Ceramics Stadium. The revamp work began on May 16th and will continue till the end of December.
Villarreal CF will play its first game at the renovated Ceramic Stadium once the World Cup in Qatar is over, corresponding to matchday 15 of LaLiga, which will take place from December 29th to December 31st, 2022.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup™ is scheduled to be the 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup™ competition, the quadrennial international men’s football championship contested by the national teams of the member-associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 21st to December 18th, 2022.
The ‘Villarreal CF’ stated that the redecoration project of the Ceramics Stadium will be spearheaded by the celebrated and prestigious international engineering and architecture company IDOM and the local construction company Alviben.

The 23,500-capacity Ceramics Stadium (Estadio de la Cerámica) is a football stadium in Villarreal, Spain, which opened in the year 1923. It is currently the home venue of the top-flight club Villarreal CF.
The revamp plans of the facility was presented at the El Ceramista Restaurant in Castellón, Spain, and was attended by the President of Villarreal CF, Fernando Roig, the Mayor of Villarreal, José Benlloch Fernández, and IDOM representative, César Azcárate.
Palatial facility
The ‘Villarreal CF’ further stated that the stadium will undergo total transformation. The sustainability quotient will be given the topmost priority.
The rehabilitation work will ensure premium facilities for fans, the pitch will be upgraded and the ambience will be like that of a football stadium in the real sense of the term.
The upgraded works will comprise:
- A new grandstand will come up in the corner, between the stands of Preferencia and Fondo Sur, and will ensure that the facility is completely enclosed;
- The new roof will come armed with facilities to facilitate television broadcasts and thus provide fans an enchanting experience. Two 21×7 meter video scoreboards (300m2 of screen), a spectacular public address system, new LED sports and architectural lighting, and a Skycam will be installed;
- New interior spaces will be created: A multipurpose room at the top of the South Fund with views of the playing field and the square, the comprehensive remodeling of the Entrelíneas Restaurant and a new space for the Villarreal CF museum;
- Sustainability will be high on the priority list with the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof; and
- The seats will be totally refurbished.
Till the renovation works are on, the ‘Yellow Submarine’ will play their home games at the 26,354-capacity Estadio Ciutat de València in Valencia, Spain – the home arena of its peer team Levante UD.
Revamp budget
The estimated price tag of the venue rehabilitation work stands at 35 million euros. Despite the supply chain crisis due to the pandemic, the ‘Yellow Submarine’ will pull out all stops to lend a spiffy look to its digs and offer crème de la crème facilities to its fans.
Revamp materials
The spruce-up work of the stadium will require 2,400 tons of steel, 12,900 square meters of roofing materials, 8,700 square meters of ceramic façade materials, and 4,400 meters of micropiles.
Stadium capacity
The capacity of the Ceramics Stadium will remain the same – 23,500. Although the reform works include the construction of a new stand with seats between the Preference and the South Fund, but there will be no capacity expansion of the venue. Villarreal CF has decided to make more room between the Preferred seats to offer spectators sitting in that particular space an out-of-the-world experience.
