Architects chosen for new stadium in Warsaw

The design competition held to build a new athletics stadium and arena on the site of the Stadion RKS Skra in Warsaw, Poland, was won by the local architectural firms Bujnowski Architekci and ATJ Architekci. The announcement was made by the City of Warsaw.

‘City of Warsaw’ stated that the above competition is a part of the second phase redevelopment and expansion of the Stadion RKS Skra with the winning firms now invited to the negotiated procurement procedure.

The Stadion RKS Skra is a historic football and athletics stadium in Mokotów Field, Warsaw, Poland. It is currently used mostly for rugby union matches and serves as the home stadium of Skra Warsaw. The stadium has a capacity to hold 35,000 people, but has been closed since October 2019.

Skra Rugby Warsaw (Skra Rugby Warszawa) is a Polish rugby club based in Warsaw, Poland. They play in the top-tier Ekstraliga.

The remodeled Stadion RKS Skra will boast a capacity of more than 25,000 while the original shape of the stadium that resembles an elongated horseshoe will not be tampered with.

‘City of Warsaw’ further stated that Warsaw’s volleyball and basketball teams will play in the multifunctional arena which will also stage concerts and other events.
