A.C. Milan firm on La Maura venue project

AC Milan stadium update March 2023

AC Milan

The Serie A team A.C. Milan have decided to focus on the La Maura area in Milan, Italy, for their new stadium and when compared to the San Siro project, they will be able to build a bigger stadium. In fact, it could be a 70k-seater.

The Serie A club A.C. Milan has decided to give the task of building its new stadium to CAA Icon.

‘sempremilan.com’ stated that the top-flights A.C. Milan and Inter Milan have been working on a new stadium for quite some time and their plan for the San Siro includes a 60-65k stadium. As the ‘Rossoneri’ have decided to focus on La Maura as far as their new digs are concerned, the new plan is a 70k stadium.

The A.C. Milan is a professional football club in Milan, Italy, founded in 1899. The club has spent its entire history, with the exception of the 1980-1981 and 1982-1983 seasons, in the top flight of Italian football, known as Serie A since 1929-1930.

Inter, and colloquially known as Inter Milan in English-speaking countries, is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy (Italy), and competes in Serie A. Inter is the only Italian side to have always competed in the top flight of Italian football since its debut in 1909.

Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, commonly known as the San Siro, is a football stadium in the San Siro district of Milan, Italy, which is the home of Serie A clubs A.C. Milan and Inter Milan. It has a seating capacity of 80,018, making it one of the largest stadiums in Europe, and the largest in Italy.

A division of CAA Sports, CAA Icon is the industry-leading owner’s representative and strategic management consulting firm for public/private sports and entertainment facility owners and operations, professional franchises and leagues.

The plan was that the famed San Siro Stadium will be demolished entirely shortly after the 2026 Winter Olympics, under new plans put forward earlier by A.C. Milan and Inter Milan. The stadium is due to host the Olympic Opening Ceremony in 2026, after which it will be knocked down and a new arena will come up on the adjacent site.

However, last year it was reported that the Serie A teams Inter Milan and A.C. Milan are firm on going ahead with plans on building their own haute home venue and feels that total repurposing of the San Siro Stadium will just be a “waste of time and money”.

‘sempremilan.com’ further stated that the above stadium of A.C. Milan would have three rings and would be able to seat 70k fans. The stadium will boast many other modern features, such as corporate seating, which will help generate more revenue.

The soldout clashes at San Siro this season have had around 75k fans present and that’s why it’s important that the venue planned to be built as part of the La Maura project boasts a capacity of 70k rather than 60k. If the capacity of the planned venue is less than 70k or even 60k, it would lead to ticket prices skyrocketing.
