Recently, as part of the 76th Ordinary Congress of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), the sites which apply to host the World Cup have been announced, if South America obtains the place. The country has two fiefs in Santiago and one in the regions. Argentina has the most: Seven.
‘Athletistic’ stated that the race to organize the World Cup 2030 has been unleashed. There are two applications that have already been made official and the work to obtain the place is in full swing. Recently, news about the South American bid (with four countries) to welcome the next planetary meeting.
Recently, as part of the above CONMEBOL event held in Luque (Paraguay), chaired by the President of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Domínguez, presented the 18 stadiums that choose to host the event. Argentina is the one that brings the most alternative places, with seven.
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) is the continental governing body of football in South America and it is one of FIFA’s six continental confederations. The oldest continental confederation in the world, its headquarters are located in Luque, Paraguay, near Asunción.
The 2030 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 24th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men’s national teams of the member-associations of FIFA. The event will mark the centenary of the first World Cup.
Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay officially submitted a joint bid on February 7th to host the 2030 World Cup, calling for the tournament to return “where football was born” 100 years after the first World Cup was held in Montevideo (Uruguay).
‘Athletistic’ further stated that through a video, CONMEBOL detailed the 18 places where the 104 matches of the 48 teams that will compete in the World Cup will be played (if this bid wins). If Argentina has seven stadiums, Paraguay has five stadiums. Uruguay and Chile have three each.
The country contributes to this with two campuses in the capital and one in the region. Those of Santiago (capital of Chile) are those with the greatest capacity: The National Stadium (the 48,665-capacity Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in the Ñuñoa district of Santiago) and the Monumental Stadium (the 47,347-capacity Estadio Monumental David Arellano in Macul, Chile, South-East of the center of the Chilean capital Santiago).
The colossus of Ñuñoa is the one with the highest total capacity, although it cannot host football this year due to the renovations that the area is undergoing due to the Pan American Games to be held in October. In addition to the Colo-Colo (Chilean professional football club) campus (Estadio Monumental David Arellano), the other is Ester Roa Rebolledo de Concepción (read the 30,448-capacity Estadio Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo in Concepción, Chile), whose new face has already hosted the 2015 Copa América in Chile.
The Pan American Games is a continental multisport event in the Americas featuring Summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The competition is held among athletes from nations of the Americas, every four years in the year before the Summer Olympic Games.
The CONMEBOL Copa América, known until 1975 as the South American Football Championship, is the top men’s football tournament contested among the national teams from South America. It is the oldest still-running continental football competition, as well as the third most watched in the world.
As described, Argentina has the highest number of stadiums in the World Cup bid. One of them is the Monumental of Núñez the River Plate house (the River Plate Stadium in Belgrano, Buenos Aires) which recently presented its new face, which allowed it to increase in capacity. Today, it has a capacity to hold 83,000 people, being the largest ground in South America. An emblematic place of Transandean football that is not among the candidates is the 54,000-capacity La Bombonera in La Boca, Buenos Aires.
In addition, the Confederation has expressed that the construction in Paraguay of the CONMEBOL stadium is projected to accommodate 60,000 spectators.
The CONMEBOL have announced they will build a new stadium in Asunción (Paraguay capital) to support the region’s bid for the 2030 World Cup.
At the body’s annual congress held recently, the CONMEBOL promised to construct a 45,000-seater stadium in the Paraguayan capital at a cost of $50 million. If South America wins the hosting of the 2030 World Cup, the capacity would be expanded to 60,000.

- Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza (42,000-capacity); and
- Estadio Juan Domingo Perón in Avellaneda (42,500-capacity).
Paraguay:
- CONMEBOL Stadium, to be built (60,000-capacity);
- Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción (42,354-capacity);
- Estadio General Pablo Rojas in Asunción (45,000-capacity);
- Estadio Antonio Aranda in Ciudad del Este (28,000-capacity); and
- Estadio Villa Alegre in Encarnación (16,000-capacity).
Uruguay:
- Estadio Centenario in Montevideo (60,235-capacity);
- Estadio Campeón del Siglo in Montevideo (40,000-capacity); and
- Estadio Gran Parque Central in Montevideo (34,000-capacity).
Chile:
- Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Ñuñoa (48,665-capacity);
- Estadio Monumental David Arellano in Macul (47,000-capacity); and
- Estadio Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo in Concepción (30,448-capacity).
