The Bundesliga team SV Werder Bremen’s home stadium will continue to be called the Weserstadion (Bremen, Germany) for the next five years which comes after the club have agreed to a long-term partnership with their four existing sponsors – Matthäi, the Harald PIHL GmbH, Wiesenhof, and Goldschmaus.
The above deal has been struck following the top-flight’s home venue naming rights partnership ending with the German real estate company Wohninvest in June 2024. The top-notch has decided not to rename the facility and retain the historic name Weserstadion.
Wohninvest filed for bankruptcy during May end and all contracts with the club was terminated on June 30th, 2024. The above deal will help the club to regain its fiscal health.
‘werder.de’ stated that the main sponsor Matthäi (a German construction and engineering company), the top partner Harald PIHL GmbH (a German company that specializes in the distribution of special metals and alloys particularly those used in the demanding industries like aerospace and medical technology) and the special partners Wiesenhof (a German poultry brand) and Goldschmaus (a German company specializing in the production and processing of high-quality pork and beef products) will now be the ‘floodlight partners’ thus ensuring that the stadium will retain its current name until 2030.
The above four sponsors will represent one of the four floodlights of the Weserstadion.
Since Wohninvest departed in June 2024 the club was seeking a solution to secure their home stadium’s identity and the ‘floodlight partners’ deal has ensured the same.
The SV Werder Bremen, commonly known as the Werder Bremen, Werder or simply Bremen, is a German professional sports club based in Bremen (Germany). Founded on February 4th, 1899, Werder are best known for their professional association football team who compete in the Bundesliga, the first tier of the German football league system.
The 42,100-capacity Weserstadion is a football stadium in Bremen, Germany. The Weserstadion is scenically situated on the North Bank of the Weser River and is surrounded by lush green parks (the name ‘Werder’ is a regional German word for ‘River Peninsula’). The City Center is only about a kilometer away. It is the home stadium of the German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.
‘werder.de’ further stated that with the involvement of the ‘floodlight partners’ a strong statement has been sent out by Bremen as well as the above four sponsors as regards the trust factor being high in their partnership.
The four entities are leveraging their association with Bremen and will work as the stadium partners as well as the ‘floodlight partners’ for the next five years.
Commented Klaus Filbry, head honcho, SV Werder Bremen, “The ‘floodlight partnership’ best demonstrates how strong and dependable the partners that support us are and how closely connected they are to both the City of Bremen and the club. The four companies have reposed full trust in the club and have an emotional connect with Bremen and the fans. In the last 12 months we have held intense discussions seeking a naming rights partner and weighed a lot of options. We faced a hard fiscal situation once our partnership with the Wohninvest came to an end. A lot of ideation took place and we arrived at the above decision with our four long-term sponsors. The ‘floodlight partnership’ comes with twin benefits – it will help us attain our financial goals and we do not have to change the name Weserstadion.”
