The Government of Kazakhstan has unveiled plans to build a new international football stadium in Almaty, the country’s largest city.

The Government of Kazakhstan said that according to the designers, the stadium will accommodate 35,000 and meet the requirements of a UEFA category 4 venue.

The project also includes training facilities, recreation areas for fans, a modern security system and landscaping of the adjacent land.

During a working visit to the stadium site, the city’s mayor Darkhan Satybaldy got acquainted with the project.

He noted that the implementation of the project is an important step in the development of urban infrastructure in the city.

He said, “The largest city in our country with a population of over 2 million is growing, and the interest of residents, especially young people and students, in sports and a healthy lifestyle is growing every day. This is why the construction of a modern international-level stadium is of particular importance.

“As you know, on the instructions of the President, we need to accelerate the work. Construction and installation work should begin next year. In the future, it is planned to build a metro station and Almaty’s logistics hub here.”

The new stadium is planned to be built between the Kulzha highway and the Talgar highway on a 15-hectare site.

This area around the new stadium will become an important transport and logistics hub for the city, allowing the venue to be effectively integrated into the city infrastructure.

Satybaldy said the location of the new stadium was chosen in line with world practice in locating large sports facilities near transport hubs for the convenience of spectators and guests.

During a presentation of the project the city mayor instructed planners to work out issues of ensuring transport accessibility, organizing parking lots and integrating the facility into the urban environment.

Satybaldy also said that the Central Stadium, built more than 65 years ago, will be preserved and modernized taking into account the track and field infrastructure, and will continue to be a piece of Almaty’s sports history.

The 23,800 capacity Central Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Almaty, Kazakhstan and the largest sports complex in the country. It is currently used mostly for football matches.

The stadium is home to FC Kairat Almaty. It also serves as the home stadium for the Kazakhstan national football team.
