The huge lanai doors of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, US, opened for the first time in months thus revealing the shining light of the venue.
Allegiant Stadium is a domed stadium under construction, located in Paradise, Nevada, United States. It will serve as the home stadium for the National Football League’s (NFL’s) Las Vegas Raiders and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Rebels college football team.
The 85-foot Al Davis memorial torch that spans multiple levels of the stadium could be seen towering over the main entrance on the north end of the $2 billion facility.
An 85-foot-tall memorial torch to honor Al Davis, the late owner of the Raiders, will reportedly qualify as the world’s largest 3D printed structure when the facility construction is over.
As per Don Webb, Chief Operating Officer of the Raiders’ construction subsidiary, the memorial torch coupled with the lanai doors, will serve as a centerpiece in a stadium replete with notable features.
Made of carbon fiber and aluminium, the torch won’t boast a real flame in it. It will be a mixture of lights and special effects.
The lanai doors are retractable doors that open on game and event days, if the weather allows, giving the 65,000-seat arena an open feel.
A 55,000 square-foot peristyle club will surround the torch. It is one among nine clubs in the stadium but it’s the only one open to any attendee who purchases a ticket for a stadium event.
Once the doors open, fans will be able to catch a breathtaking glimpse of the Strip to the northeast.
Adding a touch of green, the massive field tray, which will roll in and out of the stadium between games, has a fresh layer of natural grass turf for the Raiders to play on during home games.
The gigantic four-foot-deep tray will roll in on 13 rails through a 14-by-240 foot opening powered by 76 electronic motors and moving at roughly 11 feet per minute. The task will take about 90 minutes to complete before every Raiders home game.
As the NFL begins formulating its plans to prepare for the 2020 season with hopes of still starting on time, the Raiders’ new stadium in Las Vegas is also showing some of its finishing touches in the form of its showpiece lanai doors.
The team has begun moving into the training facility, just a mile up the road from the stadium.
With the NFL making it mandatory that all teams hold training camp at their home sites due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team officially announced their new Henderson facility is where camp will be held, which means the full-on move to Las Vegas will occur sooner than originally planned. And from the looks of it, their stadium will be in pretty good shape when they arrive.
