MLB 2022 master schedule Part I

The Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the master schedule for the 2022 regular season, which will open on March 31^st, with all 30 teams in action.

This is the first part of the MLB master schedule with the concluding part to follow.

The ‘Major League Baseball’ stated that the Opening Day is jam-packed with intrigue, as the schedule features 11 divisional matchups in addition to one Interleague showdown between the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros at the latter’s residence – the 41,168-capacity Minute Maid Park in Houston (US). Jackie Robinson Day on April 15^th also has a full slate of 15 games, including a matchup between the Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers at the latter’s digs – the 56,000-capacity Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles (US), the site of the 92^nd All-Star Game on July 19^th.

The Major League Baseball (MLB) is an American professional baseball organization and the oldest of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. A total of 30 teams play in Major League Baseball: 15 teams in the National League and 15 in the American League.

Interleague Play throughout the season will feature the AL East vs. the NL Central, the AL Central vs. the NL West and the AL West vs. the NL East.
 

2022 schedule highlights

 

American League East

• Blue Jays: The Toronto Blue Jays open 2022 on the road against the Baltimore Orioles on March 31^st, but they’ll return to Toronto (Canada) for their home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 4^th. Their first tastes of the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will both come on the road, first with a trip to New York from April 11^th-14^th, then in Boston from April 19^th-21^st. Canadian baseball fans will circle May 20^th-22^nd on their calendars, when Joey Votto and his Cincinnati Reds make the trip North for a series, and the Blue Jays will make their annual trip to Seattle from July 7^th-10^th, which always brings down waves of Canadian fans from the Western provinces. The last week of the season is already teed up to be key, with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox each coming to town for a three-game series to close out the season.
• Orioles: The Baltimore Orioles open their 2022 season at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. It’ll be a challenging opening month, with 18 games against AL East opponents and a 10-game road trip through Oakland, Los Angeles and New York. For the Interleague schedule, they host the Milwaukee Brewers on April 11^th-13^th for the first time since 2003, and they’ll also play a pair of two-game series against the Chicago Cubs in Baltimore from June 7^th-8^th and in Chicago from July 12^th-13^th. The Orioles’ home schedule concludes with a four-game series against the Houston Astros from September 22^nd-25^th. They finish the season on a six-game road trip through Boston and New York.
• Rays: The Tampa Bay Rays will begin the 2022 season on the road against two AL East opponents. The Rays will play the Boston Red Sox on March 31^st, their first Opening Day game in Boston since 2009, then play two more games at the Boston Red Sox’s home – the 37,731-capacity Fenway Park in Boston – before heading to Toronto for a three-game set. Their first home stand of the season will feature two series against the Baltimore Orioles, with the home opener set for April 8^th, and against the Oakland Athletics. The Tampa Bay Rays will visit the Chicago Cubs’ home venue – the 41,649-capacity Wrigley Field in Chicago (April 18^th-20^th) and the Cincinnati Reds home – the 42,319-capacity Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati (July 8^th-10^th), host the St. Louis Cardinals (June 7^th-9^th) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (June 24^th-26^th) and play a pair of series against the Milwaukee Brewers (June 28^th-29^th at their home venue – the 42,735-capacity Tropicana Field, August 9^th-10^th in Milwaukee) in Interleague Play. The Rays will end the season on the road with a trip to Cleveland (September 27^th-29^th) and Houston (September 30^th-October 2^nd).
• Red Sox: The Boston Red Sox will open its 2022 season at home (Fenway Park) on March 31^st, when the Boston Red Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays for three games in four days. It begins a stretch of 11 days during which they’ll meet AL East foes for nine consecutive games, as they host the Baltimore Orioles for three before heading to the Bronx on April 7^th to kick off the 2022 edition of the Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees rivalry. Interleague Play begins early this season, with the Boston Red Sox heading to Atlanta (May 10th-11th and also August 9^th-10^th). The Red Sox will also host the Cincinnati Reds (May 31^st-June 1^st), the St. Louis Cardinals (June 17^th-19^th) and the Milwaukee Brewers (July 29^th-31^st), and then travel to Chicago (July 1^st-3^rd), Pittsburgh (August 16^th-18^th) and Cincinnati (September 20^th-21^st). The last 2022 regular-season home stand at Fenway Park is against the Baltimore Orioles from September 27^th-29^th, the Boston Red Sox will travel to face the Toronto Blue Jays from September 30^th-October 2^nd to close out the regular-season slate.
• Yankees: The New York Yankees will open the 2022 season on the road and play against the two AL West clubs from Texas. The New York Yankees start with a four-game series against the Texas Rangers (March 31^st-April 3^rd) and then remain in the Lone Star State for a three-game series against the Houston Astros (April 4^th-6^th). The New York Yankees then have their home opener against their biggest rival, the Boston Red Sox (April 7^th-10^th). After that, they play a tough four-game series (April 11^th-14^th) against the Toronto Blue Jays. The New York Yankees host the Los Angeles Angels for a three-game series from May 31^st-June 2^nd. Don’t forget the New York Yankees play NL clubs, starting with the Cincinnati Reds (July 12^th-14^th). Yes, the New York Mets are part of the schedule. The two New York clubs play each other in a two-game series at the stadium starting August 22^nd. During the final month of the season, the New York Yankees will play mostly AL East clubs, but they will also see action against the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates.

 

American League Central

• Indians: Cleveland Indians will boast ‘Guardians’ across its chest for the first time on March 31^st when the club will open the 2022 season at their home ground – the 35,041-capacity Progressive Field in Cleveland – against the Kansas City Royals. The first Ohio Cup matchup will take place in Cincinnati on April 12^th-13^th before wrapping up in Cleveland on May 17^th-18^th. In Interleague Play, the San Francisco Giants (April 15^th-17^th), the San Diego Padres (May 3^rd-4^th) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (August 1^st-3^rd) are slated to travel to Northeast Ohio, while Cleveland Indians will play the Colorado Rockies (June 14^th-16^th), Los Angeles Dodgers (June 17^th-19^th) and San Diego Padres (August 23^rd-24^th) on the road. The club will wrap up its regular-season schedule with a six-game homestand from September 27^th-October 2^nd, with three games vs. Tampa Bay Rays before closing out the year against the Kansas City Royals.
• Royals: The Kansas City Royals open the 2022 season in Cleveland, facing the ‘Guardians’ for the first time. It’ll be heavy on the division matchups to start the year. The Royals face AL Central teams in five of the first six series, with the first two games of the I-70 Series against the St. Louis Cardinals – April 12^th-13^th at the latter’s home – the 45,538-capacity Busch Stadium – coming in between. Kansas City’s home opener will be the second series of the year, April 4^th-7^th, against the Chicago White Sox. The Kansas City Royals could have a particularly tough stretch after the All-Star break, when they visit the New York Yankees for four games to finish up July, and then play the Chicago White Sox in Chicago before hosting the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers at their residence – the 37,903-capacity Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. And the 2022 regular season will finish where it started – in Cleveland for a three-game set from September 30^th-October 2^nd.
• Tigers: The Detroit Tigers begin their 2022 season with a weeklong West Coast trip, starting with Opening Day in Seattle. The home opener, otherwise known as Detroit’s unofficial holiday, is April 8^th against the Chicago White Sox. The Boston Red Sox (April 11^th-13^th) and the New York Yankees (April 19^th-21^st) both visit the Detroit Tigers home ground – the 41,083-capacity Comerica Park in the opening month, part of a challenging early schedule. The Detroit Tigers travel to Dodger Stadium from April 29^th-May 1^st and San Francisco on June 28^th-29^th, plus they have visits to Detroit by the San Diego Padres (July 25^th-27^th) and the San Francisco Giants (August 23^rd-24^th). If the Detroit Tigers plan to challenge the Chicago White Sox for division supremacy, six matchups over the final two-and-a-half weeks could give them an opportunity.
• Twins: The Minnesota Twins will come out of the gate with six road games against a pair of AL Central rivals in the Chicago White Sox (March 31^st-April 3^rd) and the newly named Cleveland Guardians (April 4^th-6^th ) before hosting the Seattle Mariners for their home opener on April 7^th. The Minnesota Twins will also take on the Los Angeles Dodgers at home in two Interleague games on April 12^th-13^th before heading to Boston for four games at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox (April 15^th-18^th). The Minnesota Twins have another tough stretch in the first half of May, with matchups against the Oakland Athletics (May 5^th-8^th, May 15^th-18^th), the Houston Astros (May 10^th-12^th) and the Guardians (May 13^th-15^th) on tap. Seven of its nine series in September are against divisional opponents, including three at home vs. the Chicago White Sox from September 27^th-29^th.
• White Sox: The Chicago White Sox open their 2022 season at home against the Minnesota Twins. That three-game set is followed by three in Kansas City and three in Detroit, meaning the Chicago White Sox begin with nine straight division games. A crosstown matchup against the Chicago Cubs will arrive early in 2022, with the first two games at Wrigley Field (May 3^rd-4^th) and the two games to be played at the Chicago White Sox’s digs – the 40,615-capacity Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago on May 28^th-29^th. The Chicago White Sox have a seven-game West Coast trip in September to Seattle (September 5^th-7^th) and Oakland (September 8^th-11^th) and finish the season against the San Diego Padres in San Diego from September 30^th to October 2^nd.
