MLB All Star Game 2022 in Los Angeles Image: LA Dodgers

The Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced that the 2020 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, which was scheduled to be hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers and the City of Los Angeles (US), stands canceled. With the Colorado Rockies already having hosted the 2021 edition at Coors Field on July 13th, the Dodgers will host the next available Midsummer Classic version on July 19th, 2022.

The ‘Los Angeles Dodgers’ stated that the above decision has been taken as the Delta variant of the virulent virus has started wreaking havoc in the United States.

A statement sent out in this regard stated, “Based on the health circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic that are beyond MLB’s control along with Governmental directives prohibiting large gatherings, the league determined it is unable to conduct the All-Star Game and its week of surrounding fan activities this year.”

The 2020 Major League Baseball All-Star Game would have been the 91st Major League Baseball All-Star Game. It was planned to be hosted on July 14th by the Los Angeles Dodgers, which would have been the second All-Star Game held at Dodger Stadium, following the 1980 All-Star Game, and the fourth hosted by the Dodgers.

The 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 91st Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The game was hosted by the Colorado Rockies and played at the 50,398-capacity Coors Field in Denver (US) on July 13th, 2021, with the American League (AL) defeating the National League (NL) 5-2. It was the eighth consecutive All-Star Game victory for the AL.

The 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game is scheduled to be played on July 19th, 2022. The game will be hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California (US).

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also known as the ‘Midsummer Classic’, is an annual professional baseball game sanctioned by Major League Baseball and contested between the all-stars from the American League and National League.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are an American professional baseball team based in Los Angeles. The Dodgers compete in Major League Baseball as a member club of the National League West division.

The 56,000-capacity Dodger Stadium is a baseball park in the Elysian Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It is the home stadium of Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers. Opened 59 years ago on April 10th, 1962, it was constructed in less than three years at a cost of US$23 million.

The ‘Los Angeles Dodgers’ further stated that the 2022 All-Star Game will mark the fourth time in franchise history that the Dodgers will hold the Midsummer Classic, including the third time in Los Angeles and the second at Dodger Stadium, which last staged the event in 1980. Previously, the 78,467-capacity Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles (US) was the site of the second All-Star Game of the 1959 season and in the franchise’s Brooklyn lineage, Ebbets Field hosted the 1949 All-Star Game.

The 31,902-capacity Ebbets Field was a Major League Baseball stadium in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York. It is known mainly for having been the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team of the National League, from 1913 to 1957, but was also home to five professional football teams, including three National Football League (NFL) teams, from 1921-1948.

Earlier, the MLB had moved the 2021 chapter of the MLB All-Star Game out of Atlanta in response to a new Georgia law that has civil rights groups concerned about its potential to restrict voting access for people of color.
